Vintage owners - I need you help in identifiying a wire and its contact point.

After removing the blue Bosch coil from my car with all the other wires attached, I found a black wire with a spade terminal that looked like it ran to the coil.

The car starts and runs, but the speedometer is a bit whacky so I was thinking there was a correlation.  It either connects to the (+) or the (-) terminal on the coil  - I just dont know which one.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Brad

Unless you have fancy electronic speedo - it should be mechanical via cable.  The original VW T1 wiring had the backup lights powered off the coil with an in line fuse. It could be for the automatic choke/solenoid if you still have a the OEM single carb (it was a black wire). There is a VS wiring harness diagram posted in the library for donating members. Black is normally ground (but don't ground it without checking for voltage).

A whacky mechanical speedo is caused by an ungreased cable, a sharp bend in cable, a missing wheel C clip or a Chinese Speedo.
