Always looking for something I can trade some pictures of dead presidents for for my Speedster.  I guess to save some money, Vintage omits the Speedster rubber gasket for the horn grill. (Grille if you're snooty.)  Other mfgs do put hese gaskets on their cars and Sierra Madre has them available.   I got a pair---they fit perfectly , look like they go under the grills and and add some authenticity.

Just sharing an idea.

Jack & Bob, I did the same too.

I also replaced the two clear or frosty front turn signal lens for the horn grille

          l_parking light

with a set of European/Continental style amber colored lens. These can be found at Citroen Pieces or via eBay.  See:

In addition, I added the missing rear engine grille rubber gasket/seal that Vintage Speedsters does not install.  I found mind at AASE Sales: See:

Ahem.......

I drive a CMC.

We don’t DO horn Grille rubber-thingies.  WE drive “Kit Cars” (notice the caps).

We just shoot a bead of GE Silicon caulk around the hole and smoosh it right on there.  Looks more “authentic CMC” if we don’t clean the excess silicon off, too.

All Y’all know I’m kidding, right?   They have those rubber thingies at International Mercantile, too, and like the engine grill O-ring above, try to get one that is a continuous O-ring that stretches a little bit, not one that must be glued at the ends once fitted.   International Mercantile and others also have the “T” shaped rubber that goes between the headlight trim ring and the body, as well as the rubber base for the front directionals and rear tail lights - both bee hive and tear drops, and the rubber under the door handles, if you need it.

All these details not only make your car more “finished” looking, in general,  they get you closer to the look of an original, too.  Great winter projects!

Allnutts--you are so welcome!  That's the beauty of this site---helping each other.

Cliff---I never knew about  an engine grill seal---and just 6 bucks!   Daaang---I never spent so little on a Speedster project.  Starting to like this hobby!!

Dammit Cliff, I hope you make it to Carlisle this year----no reason you shouldn't come and show off one of the most beautiful Speedsters, along with Musbeim's  ever  to roll out the factory door. Do it---meet our caravan in Knoxville or Christiansburg.

Do it!

ps   ALLNUTS???

Jack, it's my Last name and first initial... There are lots of Stephen(s) in the world but not too many AllnuttS.  Quite a few friends simply call me by my last name.

Fairly new to the forum with my silver VS.  Appears to be a good set of people here that like to share info and give each other a hard time every once in awhile.

Coco mats are the next purchase for my speedster and I have a coupe kit on order (thanks to info from Mr. Longfella) and hope to start a build thread soon.   Let the tinkering begin!

Not too sure about that 'every once in a while" part.....   It's more like all the time!

And, Yes....   We're all awfully good at sharing information.  More so than a lot of other sites out there - Just watch out for the thread drifts.  We're notorious for that.

You really should try to get to either the East Coast gathering at Carlisle, PA, next May or the West Coast bunch in either April or June (I forget the date, but it's on here under "Events").  Lots of cars show up at both and you get to see how others, some professional builders and some amateurs, like me, put their cars together.  You can learn a LOT in a short weekend!

After seeing this thread a few months back, I ordered the horn grill gaskets from Sierra Madre.  For the most part, they fit "perfectly".  The gaskets I received from Sierra Madre has two pre-cut larger holes at the 9 & 3 position.  However, the bolts through the turn signal go through the fiberglass body at the 12 & 6 location.  It wasn't a big deal, I just cut new holes in the gasket (not like you'll see the pre-cut holes). The actual horn grill holes lined right up.   Anyway, the gaskets provide a more finished appearance, for a relatively inexpensive cost.
