Installed a 42mm exhaust system (superflow 2.3 for lowered bus) on my 2332. All my concerns of it being made in Taiwan are gone. Anyone who knows tig welding can see how well made it is. Looks like orbital welds. Very impressive from any country. Shipped to my door in less than 1 week. I'm actually glad Tiger (A-1 sidewinder) is so back logged. And I can adjust valves. Great sound

Tom, I agree that VintageSpeed makes quality parts and customer service is first rate.
Did you have any fitment issues? Would you mind posting a photo or two?
I'd like to see how it looks from the rear. Thanks.
Nice looking. I can't tell from the pictures whether or not it works with heater boxes or not.
T,
fits great. Ill get more pics later. Almost got the "more original" looking pee shooter, but I'm very happy w/ the tucked up/ hidden look.
Tom, I'm glad yours fit. At least one forum member had a devil of a time getting his to fit. I think he finally gave up and sold it to another forum member.
Waiting for photos of the exhaust system and engine in the car.
My Vintage Speed exhaust fit perfect!
8 bolts to swap them out as I recall...
the quality of the product is very nice.
Most importantly, the sound is better through these pipes...more of a droning porsche sound, instead of the sound I had with the MONZA exhaust...which was kind of like a motor boat...
I also bought one of their SHIFTERS...it's the closest thing to a GENE BERG, but with a better look for a speedster. 40 % reduced throw etc.
I got rid of that ugly MONZA exhaust....!
before and after attached...

the pics are pretty small but the system is not an extractor exhaust. I replaced my Monza with the A1 and the performance was really noticeable. Of course I did some upgrades to the carbs etc but it is a different car. I have to admit that considering the system was north of $700 I would hope I gained something.
I lost the heater boxes for a little cooler 1 & 3 cylinders. Not even sure if they're an option. Going with just heated seats (odorless). Fit up on the motor was perfect for me. It's adjustable with slotted flanges but I think this particular model is designed for a 84 stroke. The fit on the car has good air clearance all around. Muffler is approx. 5" diameter and the lowest point of the exhaust. It is the same elevation as the shock mounts. I run a CB 1.5 quart deep sump and the muff hangs just a hair lower. The side view shows the tip is nice and high up. I like that there's nothing protruding out the back beyond the body. Being a lower car anything helps from the driveway/speedbump rubs.

Tom, your exhaust system looks great!
I thought seriously about purchasing the Vintage Competition Exhaust System, but I didn't want to give up my big, custom made heater boxes. Since my engine will be putting out around 160 hp I didn't think the superflow models would flow enough (recommended for engines up to 150 hp).
I do really like Vintage products; I also have one of their shifters.
I ended up going with an A1 header (ceramic coated with a fancy quick connect flange) and a custom muffler and piping. The muffler will be a big one, but will have quick connects for easy valve adjustments.
Ron, you may be thinking of of the 38mm (1-1/2") system that aircooled.net sells that is rated for 165 hp.
I went 42mm. It is tricky to find because they do have a system for replica's. And I suspect the other member you mentioned may have had trouble fitting that system. I went with part # 155-207-050sf which for an extreme lowered bus & rated for 190hp (way more than I have).
Anyway, can't wait to see your set up. I'm sure it'll breathe well. And of course sound good.
I had a Vintage header and muffler when I drove my Speedster to CA 3 years ago.
The welding of the baffles inside the muffler failed and what a noise it made! Sounded like someone dropped some bolts down my carbs into the engine---awful.
I will say that they offered to replace it but that was after I learned about Tiger's A-1
which Is what I have on my car now. The dyno showed 18 more hp with the A1 too so I'm a believer in Tiger's product.
Your mileage may vary but this was my experiends. Tiger's is worth the wait and the price.
if there was 18 hp in the exhaust, you were also hurting the motor, as that much restriction could easely of over heated the chambers and could crack them. unless you were checking the HP @ 9000 rpm.then the 18 hp could easely be explaned.
I have had a VS exhaust on for a couple of years. They are great guys.... extreme craftsmen. I can TiG weld pretty good, but not to that consistency. Their typical Speedster exhaust outlets were too high for the CMC. They gladly let me measure and it fit good.... good tone too.
Jack, was this your dyno test? Or someone else's testing. I'd love to see it. 18 hp is huge.
I agree that 18 HP is huge however I certainly feel a lot more low end tork and higher top end revs. Do not mean to beat a dead horse but the VS exhaust is no different than if you bought a $50 system from an on line VW supplier like CB performance----assuming that it would fit.
Here's a link, from Vintage Speed's site, comparing their exhaust system with three other systems including a stinger.
http://www.vintagespeed.com.tw...austsystem-main.html
HP ranges from 95, for the Vintage, to 97 for 1 5/8" header with a stinger
Ron- A 1 5/8" system is capable of supporting up around 180-190hp; if they're using a motor with approx. 100hp as their test mule, something's not right...Al
None of VS mufflers are extractor headers. THe only boost in HP is if the tubing was wider and the engine tricked beyond stock. THEY JUST LOOK NICE. How much was teh muffler?
My driver is a highly molested 993 and the stock speedster even with 1815 motor was a mutt. Add a trick cam, big carbs and A-! exhaust and it actually gets out of its own way.
You know--I could be confused about that 18hp --I'd check it but we're trying to get organized to leave for Europe in the morning. Maybe it was 9. Jake tried 3-4 exhausts on my Type IVincluding the CSP Python and the Vintage before he was satisfied with the A-1. Yes, 18 hp is huge and I question myself about that. I have the data but it's in the "archives' so I'll look it up when I get back. I do know the A1 was far superior to both the Vintage and the CSP Python but I need to check that 18 hp. Sorry--I didn't mean to mislead anyone.
Hey Jack, is your A1 the sidewinder?
Hi Mango--yes, the sidewinder. I like it because I don't have to remove it to do my valves plus a bung was welded in so it's easy to check the air-fuel ratio.
I got the mild steel with the ceramic coating at Tiger's reccomendation. He was great to deal with; smart, willing to help, and fairly priced with what I thought was fast delivery.
i'm also rockin the T4 A1 sidewinder. i didnt know it produced so much extra HP.
is yours 1.5" or 1 5/8"?
