Installed my new shifter yesterday, having trouble adjusting it correctly. Any help, suggestions, and or tips would be appreciated.
1. It goes into reverse without having to lift up on knob.
2. Downshifting into second from third is very problematic.
3. Getting it into first also somewhat of a problem.

It can take a few tries but drive around with your tools and adjust as necessary. I got lucky and bolted it in right the first time.
If it's going into reverse without having to lift the knob you may need some spacers under the shifter.
I agree with, Bill. You'll need to fiddle with the spacer plate under the shifter. The instructions that came with the shifter explain how to solve the very issues you're describing.
Reverse gear can be engaged without pulling the shifter up? Push the bottom steel plate to the left.
1st and 3rd won't engage? Push the ALUMINUM shifter base to the front.
2nd and 4th won't engage? Push the ALUMINUM shifter base to the rear.
It's just a bit of trial and error.

Thanks everyone, didn't have a chance to work with it today, but hopefully tomorrow. I love the looks of it.
Just remember that it doesn't take very much movement (1/16"-1/8") of the steel lockout plate or the shifter base (or both) to make a BIG difference in how it works.
Little increments, then test.
Sometimes I run into an issue with carpet being under a shifter plate that changes the geometry just enough to be a pita to adjust.
Giday, Chuck. I found that my best, first position was to install the bugger while in second gear. It seemed to be a happy medium to start with. Then, with very little tweaking, all became sweet. Never had to adjust after many miles.
My car is old, yours may not be and everything is variable. Don't sweat it....only two bolts and your patience need apply. :-)
Got the shifter adjusted pretty well, the problem was the word P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E, had to look it up, didn't know what it meant. 
Small increments worked.

Reminds me of a project I worked on as a young engineering assistant back in the '70's. Bunch of military guys show up for the spec. discussion wearing these arm patches. Cool bunch of guys.
