This question may require the experience of some of you who have been in the hobby for more than a few years, but everyone can answer if they think they know.
A friend of mine is interested in buying a Speedster. He has located one about 2.5 hours from where we live and he has talked to the guy on the phone several times. The gentleman selling the car is older and his story is this:
He bought a 1970 VW Beetle from his sister in 1983. He drove that beetle until the year 2000. He decided he wanted something different so he contacted Kirk at Vintage Speedsters. He says he supplied the 1970 chassis, engine, and transmission to Kirk. Kirk had his guys rebuild the transmission and the engine was rebuilt to a 1776 by the guy who used to do his engines. Kirk added the wide body, painted it, and finished out the build. The Speedster originally had dual 45 Mikuni carbs but they were too big so he had them changed out to 40 Mikuni carbs.
The older gentleman selling the car has owned it since 2000 and since it was built has put about 9,000 miles on the car.
Does it seem plausible that Kirk would build a car using someone else's chassis and pan?
