I asked. No records are kept of builds by vin or by anything else.
If the engine was made not too many years ago I believe you can contact Roland Rascon who builds Vintage engines.
As far as your engine's size in ccs, I have heard that this is written behind the fan cover. Use a mirror and see if you can see it.
Print the vintage or CMC construction manual from the "Library" ---click the tab aat the top of this page. Also print the owners manual.
If this is your car we're talking about, start a small notebook where you can record gas fill ups and MPG as well as maintenance you perform. Keep up with oil consumption and note valve settings you find each time you adjust them. For the year of the donor car just cross reference the vin number--look under library at bthe top of this page or go to www.thesamba.com for vin numbers. This way you can learn if your car is a swing axle or IRS. Buy yourself an owners manual for the year Bug your pan came from and get "How to keep your Volkswagen alive" for servicing the engine. The world's finest resource are the kind folks right here on this site.
You won't find much documentation from Vintage and will just have to do some detective work on your own.
As far as contacting Kirk Duncan at Vintage---he has always been punctual in returning my calls and emails and super helpful supplying parts I've needed. His reputation for helping VS owners is really excellent. Perhaps he is away now that the year end holidays are almost here?
Good luck to you!
Where did you find your car and tell us a little about it and where you're located.
