I never got a instruction manual for the 2000 VS I picked up last year, and had a question regarding the two levers down in the passager compartment near the bow attachment points behind the driver and passanger seats.  These seem to be tensioning levers that, when moved from a downwardly directed position and locked into an upward upward, moves the rear bow up and tightens overall fit of the top.

Based on this "best guess", what I've been doing when putting the top up is first raise the bows and rear window up from the rear with the lever in the down position, and in this position I snap all of the top snap connections into place onto the body.  After this, I attach the front of the top to the A piller via the two spring clips.  Then I move the tensioning levers up.  However, most of the time I leave the tensioning levers in the down position as it doesn't seem to make much of a difference in the function or appearance of the top (apart from the rear-most bow being alittle higher), and puts less pressure on the snaps.

For those of you that have or have had a VS can you please let me know if I am close regarding use of these levers.  If not, the correct use of these levers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Grant

That's how I use mine if and when the top goes up.  It will make the top look saggy if you don't use the tensioners...but on my first vs I never used them either for the same reason you mentioned. My new top has not been up but once in my new VS and I did use the tensioners to help stretch the top a bit...

On my VS I also leave the tensioning levers down until the top is secured front and back, and then flip the levers up to tighten up the slack.

In the past I've always secured the turtledeck snaps before attaching the window clamps. But because of Lanes's cracked windshield I think that I'll just initially secure the rotating snaps behind the doors first, then the windshield clamps, then alternating side to side secure the turtledeck snaps...Hopefully this will avoid Lane's unfortunate experience.
