I have a newly acquired VS (cir2002) . It has a spin on oil filter and a serpentine dual exhaust that exits down and out of sight . What do you experts say would be the best exhaust to go out the back and under the bumper? Tia

If you want dual pipes under the bumper, a lot of people like the exhausts from Vintage Speed. They have 4 for 356 replicas. I used the regular length, sport exhaust (least expensive) since I didn't plan on going over 125 hp. The super flow is good up to 150 hp. They are much quieter than the Tri-Mils but still have a very nice sporty sound without making your ears bleed. https://store.vintagespeed.com...ca-Exhaust-c33996769
A lot of folks here use the A-1 Sidewinder Exhaust. It has better performance characteristics, but as far as I know doesn't have a dual under the bumper exhaust option.
@Stan Galat wrote a short explanation of some of the key considerations here: https://www.speedsterowners.co...0#588191399005424750
Vintage Speed was always the "go-to" before Ming decided he had the market and was going to take it up. His exhausts are more than $1000 now, and they shouldn't be. I know I sound like an old man, but they just aren't that precious.
CSP also makes a few exhaust worth considering on a car like yours (Kirk-n'-Mary T1)
Both of these are 1-1/2", which is about as big as you should go with a stock cam and untouched heads.
I'd prefer the second one to the first, because it leaves you some headroom if you decide to upgrade later. CIP1 is running a sale, which will be off this evening, unless I'm mistaken. 15% off anything over $499, and this is definitely over $499.

@Michael Pickett- Tiger at A1 has done dual tail pipes. They're larger than the stock VW pea shooters, but they do look good. I'll look for a pic later...
And yes, Stan covered the ins & outs of VW (and Speedster) exhaust options very well. It's great reading for anyone wanting to know more about VW headers and exhaust science, without having to delve into hours (and hours and...) of reading. I've bookmarked that thread because it's so well written and to the point.
Edit- the only pic I can find at the moment-

I recall someone here on SOC having an issue with a Vintage exhaust. It rattled internally and was replaced by Vintage as it had poor internal welding. I haven't heard of any other complaints.
As Stan said CIP1 seems to have decent prices on CSP exhausts -
Thanks everyone for some excellent input and expanding my horizon where to look and do more research . I was told this forum would be a wealth of information and you all haven’t disappointed. Thanks again
This thread got me wondering what Berg sold me for a header system way back before year 2000 (assuming that they don't build their exhaust systems in-house, but re-sell someone else's) so I started looking and comparing and believe that they sold Tri-Mill Competition Exhausts as his "Berg Extractor Exhaust System". If not, then it's a damn good copy of a Tri-Mill.
Since the header tubes are just like new, all I really want is the dual muffler set-up, preferably with quieter mufflers than what I have, and that is a separate, bolt-on assembly. I would be happy if I could find the same dual muffler pair that either bolts right in or could be made to fit. The alternative is to get a pair of mufflers separately and mount them in place of what I’ve got.
The hunt continues.....
