I inherited a four year-old VS speedster with only 2,800 miles. Built on a 1964 VW. Single carb engine. Cloth top, side curtains, and full tonneau. Silver with black leather seats. No radio, or other frills.

Did it recently hit a tree in Maryland, by any chance?

35 thousand at Barrett's... although ,they really focus on the radio, so maybe not as much.
OK Duane, forget the wizenheimers. If you could post pictures and give us some more details, I think we could venture a ball park guess, OK? The things that seem to determine the value are who built it, when, what's under the bonnet and the condition including how well it runs. It also helps to have somebody who knows the car or can go look at it and report back the potential buyers.

I guess I should have known better than to ask people foolish enough to own one of these toys for intelligent advice.
Duane....
Just a bunch of "Funsters" here that you happen to catch in a light moment.
Post details and pics and you will get some legit responses.

Duane, I was trying to make a joke. There was recently a bad wreck near me of a car nobody here recognizes, and I

The other category of Speedster replica is the purpose-built car made by specialists running a business doing exactly that. With a few exceptions, like Alan, it seems to me most folks would rather their second Speedster be built by someone else. They

A clarification -- I meant to say that cars like mine are sometimes quickly (and poorly) welded, shortened Bug chassis; the better ones are welded well and made of sterner stuff. Mine was done with a modest budget, from what I understand, and I've been years in sorting it out.
I don't know if it's possible to buy a kit from Vintage Speedsters -- never asked that question. If they don't offer one, I'll speculate your car is probably worth more than you'd get from a kit someone built on their own. The ideal chassis, in my opinion, is welded tube-steel with a regulated wall thickness.
Having said that, you'll be able to tell by looking under it what kind of chassis your inherited car is. Almost every one of the SOC owners' cars I've been able to see at events or on cruises have been very well built. Some of the private sales I've gone out to look at have been very, very rusty underneath, maybe explaining why I haven't seen them out and about.
I've only been into this for a few short years, but most of the learned wisdom here comes from guys who remember when the Myers Manx was new. They'll be great sources of knowledge for you.
I hope any or all of this is helpful.
Welcome to the site, anyway!

I was serious though

Who wants to be serious here? Not me! My other car is a big van that says "Free Candy" on the side

Darren on a date:
"Want some candy, little girl?"
"Nope."
"Want some ice cream?"
"Nope. And my Mommy said I shouldn't talk to strangers."
"Your mother is very smart. Come here, and let me ask you a question."
"Okay, Mister. What's your question?"
"Does this rag smell like chloroform?"
(The van doesn't have windows, does it Darren? And the license plate reads 'MusBJim" ...)

Cory, nice job on the writeup, but it appears that Mr. Bradley has left the building.

I got a p-mail, Hoss. He appreciated the notes and said he had his tongue in his cheek about the make-believe car thing.
I prefer the 'Stuart Little' car approach, myself. I'll be bringing the aluminum wind-up key to Carlisle this year. VW, circa 1970-something.

Hey little girl, what's in the Basket?

It's an off-season thing, Duane. Every now and again, a thread has its original question answered or the author leaves it alone too long ...
You see the results.

Vince - She's returning your dog-tags that she found in a burning pile of sh*t in Nam! You G.I beaucoup dinke dou!!
Cory - Nice touch with the dingle-ball window dressing on the Weinermobile!
Duane - Leisure time has nothing to do with the knuckle-head responses you'll find on this site. It's more about a bunch of (mostly) guys doing what guys do, ribbing their friends. Then again that doesn't speak to the fact that some of us never matured beyond jr. high level (that would be me!). Filter out the wisenheimer remarks and you'll find some very knowledgeable (more mature) folks more than willing to share their expertise on Speedsters (and everything else you didn't think you needed to know!).
Peace - Out!

Todd...it just made me mad that this kind of comments were made, especially after Cory very nicely let's Duane know how it was just a joke and goes into this big explanation to try to help him out!!! but I guess Cory had nothing better to do anyways,he had WAAAAAAY to much time in his hands!! You got a taste of the latin in me... but actually Iam a very nice person, JUST DON'T PISS ME OFF!!! ~Esther

Every night I go home had sit in my car. It gives me great happiness to know that I put my heart and soul into building something and it came out sooo well. Especially know that my children had a hand in it and that I spent good time with them.
Comments like his don't hurt. How could they. I got to build a car that I have loved for so long. Now I get to drive a car that I have loved for so long. Someday, I might sell the car that I have loved for so long, and then build another car that I have loved for so long.
In the end, I'm just living the dream. Duane has differnet dreams. Just like the guy who left him the speedster.
