This Vintage Speedster lot F235 in Seattle was bid up to $38,000 and IT DIDN'T SELL.  With this crazyness going on, I just listed my Speedster with Mecums for the August auction in Monterey mine is lot #46.

I have no idea why that green/grey one didn't sell. The seller must be very proud of it.  He may regret not taking the money.

The seller is actually Park Place in Seattle.  They buy turn keys from Vintage and add the details you see on the car.  They do a good job, but work pretty hard to hide the fact that the cars come from Vintage.

Mecum's target audience, isn't really replicas 356 real or otherwise, much less other sports cars.  That being said, outlaw 356's will play better to their audience, (and their commentators).  So Troy I agree with you, turning down $38K, might be regretted as time passes. Someone obviously bought this car new from Kirk, just to flip.  Don't get me wrong i LOVE this car. It hits all the buttons.

And as for the comments, I'd like to see a Mecum, say GTO, take on one of our members cars in 0-60 time trials.  I know where my money is.

Cheers

I'm with Bill - I see TURBO on back of car but no Turbo blower in exhaust/carb system.  Am I missing something?

Years ago I had friend with '69 GTO - He'd put $20 bill on dash and accelerate, if you could reach it, it was yours.  To my knowledge he never lost the $20.  Did loose his license but that's another story. Ended up with a VW bug 'cuz that's all he could afford insurance on.

Hello gents-

Troy bought the car nearly exactly as you see it. Coco Mats and Turbo emblem intact. He's been plenty open about the Turbo emblem. I think he was the first one to poke fun at the fact that the car came with the emblem but no turbo. He also went on to say that it meant he had to get one.

At the end of the day the interior and color combination are pretty impressive in person.

Looking forward to seeing it cross the block and then to see what Troy does next!

Having sold my tub at Mecum last year, I found the most important thing is having two people who are interested, and with these, 30-35K isn't really breaking the bank, especially since old fiat Jolly's and BMW Isetta's bring at least that much....

Usually guys bring their wives/girlfriends, and THEY are the ones who fall for these little buggers...

spend some time sitting around the auction with your tub, hawking it while also cruising the other cool cars, great weekend and could also be profitable...

Mecum is the perfect auction because they typically don't do the high end exotics, so a replica tub does well....McCormack's in Palm Springs is another one that fits for these tubs...

Damn Troy, help me find a Speedster! I am having a hard time finding one!

Troy, I think Chris was a little miffed at the comment you made about the IM-D top on his sale ad.  It kind of came off like there was something wrong which there is not.  There is a lot going on with the mechanism with the IM-D top.  Its a real top attached to the car not just a simple scissor frame like you often see on the cars you sell.  There is a little tact when folding the IM-D top to get it more flat but like the other tread mentioned it does not block your view and looks correct when folded with the Tonneau properly installed.

Chris, calm down; most of the people in the Market for an IM are in the know.  Your car is beautiuful and with period correct colors to boot.

Taking the time to post a pic of the top of my car to prove why he would "rule it out" is just senseless. This from a guy who uses this site more than anyone to flip vintage speedsters. I could post a pic of one of the many different cars pictured in front of the same fence at the same time of night and explain to the forum what attributes should "rule it out" for prospective buyers...but I don't because it's not cool. Troy, do you not know I own the liquid cooled intermeccanica?" Oh you do? Ok...
