Question is, where are you overnighting to? NY City?  With my car I would park anywhere and not worry about it.  Top up or full cover on.  And if I questioned the location I was staying, I would ask front desk if they minded me parking it right in front, out of the way of arriving guest.  just my 2 cents.

You could always put a car cover on it - most of them have grometed holes amidships to apply a lock to hold it on the car.  I would also ask the hotel/motel to park it out front with an eye (and/or lights) on it all night.

This has been a frequent discussion topic here - just search the archives for 'security' to find some of the threads.

Main points are, as noted, parking defensively, kill switches and other 'disabling' tricks, but maybe most notably, the fact that these cars are seldom stolen. That is probably because they are so easily spotted, both on the street and if they are offered for resale. And the parts aren't too easy to fence either, compared to say, a Honda Accord or small block Chevy.

Most surprising 'security' accessory is the full tonneau cover that somehow makes the car less attractive to meddling hands.

Probably because it's been decades since car manufacturers even HAD tonneau covers so nobody but us and Austin Healey/MG owners know how to get in to them!

+1 for parking in front. When I travel, I park right up front under the watchful eyes of the bell hops.

Also, check insurance. I just learned that Barrett-Jackson (at least my coverage) doesn't cover any overnight stays where the car isn't in a locked garage (parking garages don't count either apparently). Does that seem odd to any of you?

I have parked in the street in downtown Detroit for 5-6 hours and never had anyone mess with it. I Don't think I would leave it in the street overnight (in Detroit) but I would do a parking structure overnight if I had to.

Parking under the awning out front is a motorcycle trick used for decades.

That insurance thing rings familiar. Kind of shitty, if you ask me, but very understandable from the insurer's point of view.
