I just bought a used Vintage Speedster, good shape but the turn signals don't work and never worked for the previous owner. He was told by a repair shop that turn signals were never installed(!). I got them working briefly, so I know all the parts are all there. I don't know what I did (if anything) to get them going, but like I said now they don't again. I was wiggling wires and removed and reinstalled the fuses.

The green gauge arrow light goes on when the lever is moved, but none of the lights light up outside. I am guessing a bad ground, bad connection, or bad flasher. I am not real good with electrics, but I am resigned to figuring it out, mainly because I don't want to spend $100 an hour for someone who at best knows no more than me, at worst tells me they are "not installed".

Has anyone had a simillar issue? I can't seem to find the flasher, where is it usually located on a turn-key (Vintage assembled) Speedster? I found a wiring diagram on this site but the scans are low resolution and tough to read. It looks like there is a relay that the headlights and flasher is wired to, I can't seem to find this either, any clues?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks guys

I did see that above the column. I guess if it is glued on you just twist it off? Will any 12v flasher with the right connections work? I would imagine one for a beetle would do.

Usually when a flasher goes, or a bulb is out, the (good) light will light up. This doesn't happen but it is worth the cost of a flasher to eliminate that as a possibility. Perhaps I can cross the leads on the flasher and see if the lights work.

I will let you know if it works. I still think it may be a bad connection somewhere. I find electrical problems very mysterious.

Thanks again

Doug

Be aware, though, that the flasher does only that - switches the current on and off to the directional light switch and THAT's where it makes the different lamps light.  However if you only have one light out it could be burned out or have a corroded + connection or a bad ground.....   Just be persistent and you'll find it - these cars are very simple and easy to figure out.
