As someone mentioned before - so its too late to buy parts from them!  They NO LONG apparently sell parts for Speedsters on the new site.

That just leaves the equally confusing Speedster parts supplier listed below which was never related to any of these builder.  Anyone else note that their prices have jumped to over even SierraMadre's prices on some items!

You can still purchase parts through Vintage Speedster, apparently not with an on-line order though.  I spoke with them on the phone a few days ago and they were more than happy to work with me even though they didn't have parts specifically listed on their web-site.  They sent me an invoice with the business name Vintage Motorcar which piqued my interest and got me involved in this very thread.

In fact, I mentioned that in this thread several days ago.

Either way, they were helpful.

As far as Vintagespeedsterparts.com is concerned, I am happy with them as well.   Interestingly enough: each company had the parts I wanted yet they both had different prices.  The price differences were fairly drastic yet both suppliers were both more AND less expensive than the other depending on what I was looking for.

Lesson learned by me: Shop for the best price as with anything else.

Went to Dave Amaya's Custom Tops shop this morning to get my new Tonneau fitted. That's Dave checking my old vinyl tonneau, and 3rd photo shows the car with old sagging vinyl tonneau from left side. Dave is a stand up guy and had all the part together and even had Poncho on hand to do the work. Attached pics show the nice job done by Dave & Poncho, specially like the black anodized snap covers.DSC02087 I am happy with my Black Mamba's new "britches"!DSC02115DSC02102DSC02107DSC02108DSC02109DSC02110DSC02111DSC02112DSC02115

The photo shows sides tucked in the doors.  Guess that keeps prying eyes and dust out but like Bill said in a downpour lots of water would be funneled in.  HA, guess with low rain fall in CA - it isn't big issue?

LOL,! You are right Wolfgang about the minimal rainfall, however when i does rain at times it comes down pretty heavy. I usually check the weather before I trek to avoid weather if at all possible!

Here's a pic of mine - Vintage doesn't use snaps on the door either, but it overlaps the door a bit to help keep rain from coming inside the car.

Sweet looking car! Yes it does overlap and yours looks to be nice and tight also. Mine has a little bit of play in it, so I just tuck it down. My car is not a VS build, it is an early intermeccanica . It was built in So Cal when they were here for a short bit before they moved IM to Canada so I had to have it custom cut to fit this mold. I still have the old vinyl one.

Thanks all for your feedback. FYI - Dave Amayo also does repairs and refits to other brands of automobile tops & tonneaus besides the speedsters. It's getting a bit cooler here in prep for RAIN (yes RAIN!) forcasted for next Tuesday and Wednesday according to the weather reports. It's foggy out this morning but nice day to put the top up, pop in Troy's cruzin windows and take a Sunday ride on the coast! Have a great day all!

Thanks for the tip.

Hummmm, you've given me what might be a good idea.  Adding an extra strip of material to the section that overlaps the door might be a smart thing to do even if it should continue to leak a bit.

Kirk at VS recently sent me a tonneau cover for my car, along with a set of Tenax fasteners that have not been installed yet; therefore, when I have them installed I'll ask the upholstery specialist to add an extra strip of material to the section that already overlaps the door.  Some may call it overkill but if the opportunity is there to experiment with the idea, why not try it?

Jim's looks like a Tenax fastener?  If you have the snaps on top/rest of tonneau then they work too (less costly).

If Jim's is like mine, Vintage used Tenax fasteners in front, and snaps on the rear of the cover. The first fastener just behind the door on either side is what boaters often call a commonsense fastener (I don't know what the actual name is for that fastener). Unless my crummy eyes are deceiving me, it look's like they used the same fastener in that location on Dutch's car as well.

Jim---where did you get that cool wind defector>  I haven't ever seen one like that.  Thanks!  Jack

@Jack Crosby Those are made by our very own @aircooled Bruce from the West Coast faction of the SOC. I believe you can get them through Sierra Madre now or maybe direct from Aircooled Bruce.

I'm pretty sure that what Vintage typically uses in the front are Lift-The-DOT fasteners not Tenax  fasteners.   Here is a link that shows both types.

Dutch....I guess that was you I said hi to when I pulled into  Vintage yesterday. I was in my copper colored Honda Element...you were just leaving about 10.30 or 11 am.

Vintage is all but bare now huh ......Bruce

Hello Bruce! Sorry I did not know who you were but you did a great job getting me out of the parking space, thanks! BTW - Thanks for the fantastic wind wings, I love them and as a testament to their longevity, I had one drop of the car (did not tighten it enough apparently) while doing about 35mph. I did not realize it had fallen off but I did hear a noise like I ran over something but ignored it. Not until I got to the grocery store did I realize it was missing and then panicked, ran back to where I did hear the noise and sure enough,  there it was in the street near the curb. I picked it up looked it over and it was damned near spotless but a few minor chips off each corner of the plastic. I screwed that wind wing back on tight when I got home and she works and looks great. Your wind wings are well engineered and a quality product worth every penny!!! Nice to meet ya Bruce!

It's interesting that Porsche got after Greg for "spyder" when there must be a half dozen auto makers that do use/have used that moniker.

Tom,

I received a follow up letter from Porsche's attorney two years later (2014)  notifying me that it would be ok to use "Spyder" , guess they figured they would have to send out a lot more "Intellectual property rights" letters then they wanted to.
