Up for grabs is my Vintage 550. I purchased the car 8 months ago and have driven with the local PCA to numerous runs through the Texas Hillcountry. What a blast! After some experience with the PCA, I'm finding my interests shifting a bit. I'd like to run some Drivers Eds and maybe a bit of autocross. I can't really see doing this with the 550 (it's too nice to scratch up!) so I'm going to let her go.
Here's the details.
Built as a turn-key car in 1999, originally white with the speedster windshield, CB perfomance motor, and purchased by an older gentlemen out of Florida. Driven approximately 17k kilometers. Car sold in 2002 to a Doctor out of Atlanta who did the complete stripdown and rebuild of the car. The car features a Raby Built type 1, dyno'd at 165 hp. Matched set of Dellorto 48mm carbs, external oil cooler, carbon fiber shroud, 911 cooling fan. I have Jakes build sheets assembled in the book he ships with the motor documenting all the features and prices. I believe Jake installed the motor and jamar shift linkages at his shop, the previous owner was only an hour or so from Jakes. I bought the car with 18k (1K on motor) and currently have 27k kilometers on it. I've put on roughly 5k miles, the motor has 6k miles. It sounds great and runs fantastic. The 550 just plain screams and is the fastest car I've ever driven. It's currently serviced my Motormania of Austin, TX. The car is finished in VW reflex silver with black racing bullets on the back. Dario additions are: correct turn signals/blinkers, plexiglass windscreen, integrated rear scoops in decklid (which are done very well!), aluminum rockerpanels. I added the front pieces forward of the seats, they took FOREVER to mockup and get to fit right. The whole install for the alumiunum took a week of evenings and the complete weekend. Plus a few bloodied knuckles. Big job, but definately worth the time. Front Oil cooler grill, banjo steering wheel. The car also has 4 wheels disks. I'm probably forgetting a few things, but I posted photos under bpgenovese. Please check them out and let me know if there's any questions. The car was rented this past summer by Robert Rodriquez's studio here in Austin and is featured in an upcoming film "Sin City". I put a picture of Jamie King driving the car. Mickey Rourke drives it as well. Really they just sat in it, the 550 was never even started during the movie shoot. What a great experience, got to eat lunch with Jamie and watch them shoot for an afternoon! Car is offered at 30k, please feel free to e-mail me with any questions, I don't check the spyderboard everyday, but will get back to anyone as soon as I can. -Ben Genovese ben@rpmaustin.com
