I finnaly got my 356 today after dreaming about one for ~3 years or so. It's a vintage ~3 months old 1776 package with dual carbs and disk brakes.

I have some question's about the warr. though.

The car has ~610 miles about 4 months old, and only four things I have found are wrong with it.

The battery or oil light flashes when I upshift ~10% of the time with the new motor I assume that this is simply due to the motor not being fully broken in, a loose connection or otherwise. Is this covered under the warr.

The speedometer stopped working in the middle of the test drive.

The temp gauge does not work at all.

The passanger door spqeaks. It looks like the locking mechanism is not fully seating correctly.

Other then that the car is so clean you could eat off it, I do need to get the speedo fixed though as it is the most pressing matter, and the squeak is driving me crazy.

Well I have been working on VW's for a long time so fixing it myself would be no problem but if it is under war. then I might as well get it taken care of.

I took a heat reading off the motor yesterday after warmup and everything looks good, did a ~10 mile drive and everything checks out fine, the bigger motor and the dual carbs realy pep up the car from the standard ones that I have driven. Car is tuned very well from the factory I was happy to see and the previous owner seems to have been a very gentle driver so I don't expect any major problems, and parts are cheap unlike my BMW. (DK motors for my 8 series cost me ~2400$ or so from the factory, thank you factory warr.)

Only thing left is to get my ins. company up to date on the car and then it starts daily driving status. ~9 miles a day ~4 days a week. I don't drive that much and I have the S2000 for longer drives.
Michael,

I just replaced the speedo in my mine last week, only 1500 miles and it snapped . It was just a simple cable 40.00. As far as any warranty
claims Kirk will either fix it or pay to have your local guy to fix it. Kirk had to replace my engine at 1000 miles as it spun a cam bearing. He picked the car up and dropped it off 2 days later with a new engine.

My 850i was sold to buy the 356, and it was a expensive piece of equipment and I loved every minute of it. Car would go from 85 to 150 like everybody else was standing still. I figured about 4000 a year to keep it running perfectly. The previous owner had spent ~10K just getting it into good running condition, most of that was labor. Not a car to own for the faint of heart, that and the check engine light sometimes has a life of it's own on those cars and will couse you to tear everything apart searching for soming to justify the code.

But I loved every second of it, only reason I sold it was the symbol rating of 26, basically right there with the 456 GT ferrari. I am 22 years old the insurance was off the charts.

Got the speedo working, cable snapped out of the back of the gauge, screwed it back in and everything should be fine, the temp gauge was a bad conection, I believe but I am not sure as I have not warmed the car up since I fixed that. The only thing remaining is the squeak and the dash light. The squek is coming from the door rubbing on the inner lining that vintage pusts between the door stops. I believe a little bit of felt will solve that.

As for the light I am not sure what it is even for, I assume that it is the oil pressure light and that it is not functioning properly as it is lighting up at random. It is the light on the tac. on the right hand side it glows red. The car starts and runs fine, the only thing that I can think of is that the clearances on the motor are tight, I have had rebuilt type 4 motors do something similair after a really tight build and then it stopped around 2000 miles.

Thing is even though the light is random it still scares me so I will trace it tomorrow or hopefully find the owners manual on this web site which will allow me to at least be confident as to what it does. Will post pictures later in the week as soon as I get my digital camera back. Any help you guys can give would be great
Temp gauge works now, it just floats lowr on the gauge then I was expecting but it is reading correctly.

I will check the E-brake I completely forgot that it might be causing the light.

P.S. does anybody have a link to the owners manual for the Vintages, I really want to find out what all the lights are linked to without tearing the car apart.
