For some reason I don't fathom, my car has a windshield frame that does not have the snaps for attaching the tabs at the right and left front of the convertible top. The top connects well otherwise to the frame using the clamp system on the top and the connections on the frame.

Anybody have a decent photo of these snaps on the frame?

I need to see if these are pressed in and part of the frame itself, added on by some other means (welded) or what.

Can the windshield frame be modified or do I have to get a new frame.

If I have to get a new frame, then that drives a few other things I might do at the same time.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Bob

Tom:

Neither had I, and, of course had only utilized the latch system. and I couldn't figure why the top had those two flaps on it with no place to attach them until Corn Daze and a sudden thunder storm when we  were at the Mackinaw winery. A couple other cars had the same top latch system but also snaps on the windshield frame.

Well, what do you know, an additional attempt at sealing up the thing!

Thanks, Troy! I 'm not a fan of spidered glass windshields, either.

Now, where can I get these little dudes, an auto upholstery shop or are they a Vintage item? I'll be looking for them.

Fabric stores, like Jo-Ann's, also have velcro on multiple strengths from easy-pull to press it together and leave it forever.  If you were to get some of the moderate HD version, you could either use double-sided sticky tape or contact glue some small patches to the windshield frame.  I've seen those work well and no worry of cracking the glass.

Or you could do what I did and ignore putting snaps on the windshield frame at all.  I looked up at that corner and figured how to make the side glass fit into a "pocket" by running a stitch line 1" below the existing side-flap seam and it works like a charm.

Bob, I really appreciate observing other's obsessions...it tends to diminish the depths of my own madness!!

I too have those tabs and windshield frame snaps. They appear to be designed to pressure seal the forward top edge of the side curtains. But they're not very effective - actually useless - in preventing water from dribbling in.

I like Gordons velcro solution.
