Yesterday was pretty exciting ! Since I'm doing really good on my recovery from surgery I decided to drive down to Gregs shop. It's about 40 minutes away. The shop was very busy and for a little bit Greg had time to talk to me before he took his Son home. Greg was supposed to be off work this week on vacation but ended up coming back to work due to all that needs attention in his business.
He told me that the designs for my frame and suspension were on paper now and included the welding and assembly jigs to go with them. The fellow who is doing this is gone on vacation until August 1. Upon his return he will make a reality out of the designs. Greg mentioned that there is now some shortages of certain components to build pan-based cars and this is going to grow in the near future. He mentioned that Cary Hines has expressed similar comments. That's why Greg is moving over into a more tube based frame for the future as well.
Greg had to leave so I did a walk-about and took a few photos. Since I am pretty well set on a Pearlescent White paint job, I was interested in the white Spyder. I noticed that they had installed a piece of satin stainless or aluminum on the dash behind the gauges. It looked good and probably won't reflect sunlight but I think that I will make an engine-turned stainless piece for this. Since there isn't much of it that will show, I will use 3/8" circles to give it a more precise detailed effect. My light and wiper switch will be mounted in that panel as well. The only switch on the dash will be the ignition on the right side. No starter button. Looking at the engine I couldn't help but think about how easy everything is accessible on these Spyders and how much more room there is for other stuff. You all know how much we all like to add "stuff" to our cars !
The other photos are of a beautiful black Speedster parked outside. I was drawn to the upholstery and how it stood out ! Greg calls it "Baseball Glove" leather. It really went well with the black. I especially liked the way it blended in with the color of the steering wheel. So now I have a dilemma ! I was going with "Burgundy Wine" leather but I think the color of this upholstery in the black car would look great too. Oh well....that's down the road a bit..........Enjoy the pic's.................Bruce
