You are looking for a "DC to DC converter". There are many make and model hits that come up on a Google search, but I have no specific suggestions. It could also be done with voltage dropping resistors, but this is very inefficient and might call for large wattage ratings, depending upon the current draw.
T.E.:

Try Foreign Autoparts in Mass. for either the dropping resistor (I agree with Brian on their in-efficiency (and they get pretty hot) but they work) or a DC to DC converter. I remember that they had a few offered a while back and may still have them.

Where in Mass are you? I may have a few more sources depending on where you are. You can also try Mossmotors.com - just make sure you get a negative ground version, not positive ground as many of the Brits use.

Ooooppsss!

Thanks anyway guys, I just tried my spare 12 volt battery on it __just a quick connect__to see if cleaning and lubricating the shaft would make things better (the previous owner of the car said that the wipers ran slowly.) A quick wiff of smoke and one of the windings melted!

There goes a nice Ebay item . . .

This afternoon I 'm going to sit down and ruin a 1967 only VW Bus wiper assembly to see if I can't get the motor out and onto the Porsche assembly. After that I'll destroy a '69 Ghia unit, and discover that the motor faces sideways and won't fit.

Tonight, around 7:30 or so I'll finally decide to shorten a '71 Bug assembly and wreck that in the process as well.

Gotta run, and round up the tools, got a big day and early evening planned.

Thanks guys,

TC

Oh, I live in Kingston, a little coastal(?) town between Duxbury and Plymouth. On the Southern Shore, but North of the Cape.
Nice to see I'm not the only guy who fries things - working on the trailer loom on my F150 right now and found that the trailer lights won't light because the power lead chafed through about 6" from the bumper connector. Fortunately, it did so when the parking lights were off (which is most of the time, lately) so nothing blew further upstream.

I'm over in Tiverton, RI, just a few minutes from Fall River, and there is another Speedster down around Point Judith. We're both headed for Carlisle, along with a small number of others to be picked up along the way......you joining us?
Thanks guys!

The problem is that I'm running__strike that, WAS running__a stock '55 356 wiper motor and mechanism. I can still use the mechanism and pivot arms but now I need a wiper motor that is 12 volt AND turns clockwise. All of the "spares" that I have are later VW and turn the opposite way. I think that the 1967 Beetle rotates clockwise, but I'll have to check with a few "vintage types" to be sure.

In the end, if nothing turns up, I can shorten an early Bus unit to fit or maybe lengthen a Beetle one, but that will be harder. Although the two speeds would be a nice change.

Alright, I've been reading your posts for a while and I have to ask...who is Team Evil? Is it a Satanic group that worships air cooled motors, or just a group of nasty individuals? My wife just asked me who I was reponding to and I said, Team Evil." She just shook her head and walked away. I hope your first name isn't Damien.

Ron, Are you sure that you want to know?

OK, here's the 411. Apologies in advance for the length . . .

There is a group of extreme fighters here in South Eastern Ma/Rhode Island, the matches include fighting with toasters and frying pans and small televisions and such. They "gig" themselves in order to increase the blood and drama, etc. The last match that I was at, the "hall" was set on fire. Some of it is theatrics, but mostly it's broken bones and bad scarring.

The "weapons master" for one of the groups is Evil Ed (you can Google him if you include a fighting or wrestling reference). I started out with autocross and SCCA racing and was led over to drag racing (my wife calls it the dark side) by Ed. We field a 1914 Beetle, a 350 Chevy powered Beetle panel truck (presently being done up like a hearse with the Intel rip-off "Evil Inside" logo) and an 1835 (turbo) Karmann Ghia .

On a odd religious note, as a counter point to Evil Ed's leanings, we also have a Baptist Minister and his Uncle (the husband of a Minister's daughter) on our Team(Evil).

Like music, sex and politics, we try to keep religion out of racing.
