VS - dual carb; air filters

A non-tech guy...needs some help from you mechanical types. I have a VS with the 1776 engine, dual carbs....but the filters are round, & not oval. Does anyone know a good filter website; the filter is aprox 5 5/8 wide, & 3 1/2 inches high. Help....my local foreign autoparts store...is stumped, & do not carry this size.

Unless damaged the filters can be cleaned and re-oiled.

I would call VS and order some from them.

I have an email into to Kurt, for his help. I picked some up from VS when I was in CA on vacation last week, but the size he gave me are too large (too wide). One of the filters is damaged....needs to be replaced, so I want to replace both of them.

Kevin, I am wagging a guess, but it sounds like you have the Dual Solex/Kadron & EMPI set up. If so, these filters are available at nearly all VW parts suppliers. Write privately if you need some links.

I just went to this site. I tried to size my Solex/Kadrons. They didn't have the right size. I have the same size filters as you. I guess the VW supply stores are the best guess.

I agree 100% on the AJ Simms recommendation on Kadrons. I ran a set that AJ sent me on that Hydro engine (now rebuilt and sitting on stand as a back up). I just traded them with some other stuff for a new set of 40IDFs. Point is, AJ sent these virtually set up for the 1776, I mean we just slapped 'em on, sync'd, backed off the throttle screws and fired her up.... minor adjustments and in 10 minutes we had them running as sweet as you would want. Came with the intake bases polished, right jets (and spares), squirt set, everything, plus good limkage. Anyone thinking about Kadrons, having Qs about Kads, or, need Kad parts/info, would do themselves a favor going to AJ... he's the man.

AJ Simms is great....thanks to the suggestion made, I made contact & everything I need is on the way. As soon as I qupted the dimensions of my filters, & that you guys at the club felt that I had Kadrons on my speedster; he took care of everything. He even took the time to give me a little talk on the Kadrons. Yes....the board saves my butt again.....thanks guys!
