I was at the Mecum KC auction Friday and saw this VS there. It was a decent car but nothing special about it. Cars were going very reasonably in most cases, but not this one. It brought $30k! Here is the link. http://www.mecum.com/auctions/...735&entryRow=156

What's wrong with $30,000? The only big option was the Custom coachwork by Reutter Stuttgart.
... that and the authentic 356 floorboards.

Wow! "custom coachwork by Reutter Stuttgart"?
I had no idea that Reutter was into fiberglass.
It's just too bad it didn't have the highly sought after and pricey Sierra Madre "Made in Western Germany" plate attached to the door. That would have easily brought another few grand.

What does the auction typically charge for the sale? 10% ?
My Vintage Speedster has that tag, "Made in Western Germany". I wonder if they still put them on the recent cars? I guess it should read "Western Germany, California"!
Rare finding a '55 without beehive rear lights too!
Sierra Madre is so expensive (guess the CA adress?). Only $14.15 at Klasse356.
EMB35.0 | Plate, "Made in Germany". Fits all 356 Models. | $14.15 |
It did have that tag and another larger manufacturing tag riveted over the carpet on the vertical bulkhead over the fuel tank. Mecum charges 8% for a reserve autcion or 6% non reserve.

Thanks for the info.
