VS Building Two a Day?

Ever hang out in the garage with a bunch of friends, drinking beer, shooting the $hit, telling lies, discussions awash with thinly-vieled attempts to one-up the other guys' story....

WINNER! I'm not a car detailer kinda guy. In 3 years I've washed my car maybe 7 or 8 times (microfiber cloths), takes me maybe 45 minutes wash, dry, Mequire's Spray detail wax. Other wise mostly dust buster and Mequire's Speed Detail Wax (15 minutes). I wash the wheels and tires every 6 weeks or so. 

I'm at the other end of the color spectrum, but treat my white car about the same - wash and chamois it and then use the California Detailer that Carl Berry found.  I wax it every 2 - 4 years with Mother's because it's easy to use and seems to last forever.  That is about the level of "detailing" I go through, maybe using Tire Black and also vacuuming the interior and hitting it with ArmorAll (except for the seats - When I ArmorAlled them I kept sliding around...   Never been into the Q-Tip/toothbrush thing.  In fact, after welding up my heater exhaust pipe, the car is covered in acetylene soot from starting the torch - Yuch.....

I would probably have mine washed and spiffed by now, but it has been too cold and damp to even think about it. We all keep hoping that next week will be better.  Not this week, for sure.

There must have been some sort of miscommunication or misunderstanding regarding how many cars we are building. Not sure where or why.... but without a doubt we are not building two cars a day. That wouldn't leave much time for the glass to set up, or the paint to dry

I'm at another extreme, no paint, (not exactly true, I painted a faux patina including some rust! What does everybody think?

I’m similar to @MusbJim. I have never used a hose on the Speedster and hope to never have to. I’ve never used a hose on any of my classics as water seems to get into various nooks and crannies and just sit there. (A little less to worry about on fiberglass cars, but there is still a number of metal parts on our cars as well)

Rather, I use Meguire’s quick spray detail after every ride. Then I throw the cover on it. Tires and wheels every 6-8 weeks. I also use Meguire’s professional polish on it every 6-8 weeks. 

As MusbJim says, it’s incredibly quick to wipe down the car. Maybe 15-20 minutes. Bugs and misc stuff wipe right off. 

is that fiberglass rust or just regular rust

Chris - Love that patina look.  I bet folks think is is the real thing.  Some sand thrown in wet patina paint would add bubbling rust for lower door panels and fenders.  How about some close ups and a quick how to? There is another SOC member with a rust wrapped (?) Speedster too.

Wet towel and a dry towel, only when necessary, rather than spraying water.  Surf Garage detail spray and microfiber cloth, every time, while the car is warming up before driving.  Takes maybe 2 or 3 minutes at most.

Chris, I think you have a winner!

Looking at the wonderful (unique) finish on your car I'm reminded of the 1957 Porsche 356A Coupe 'barn find' that sold for, counting commission,  $556,000 at the Gooding & Co. auction on March 9, 2018 in Amelia Island, FL.

Well... we are still building the great product that everyone has come to love for the last 31 years. We have been making subtle improvments to the cars along the way and we are still taking custom built orders and building cars for our clients all over the world. We have been working on standardization and quality control and increasing production output. We are actually quite busy at this time and with summer coming around it is getting even busier.
