I think you maxed at about 50 HP.....

Didn't a stock 1600 DP put out around 56/58 hp? Kadrons and a decent exhaust system should give you 8 to 10 hp gain. 65 hp sounds about right to me.

Yeah that sounds right Ron. Electronic ignition was supposed to add a few hp

How much would putting dual carbs on a stock VS change the horsepower rating? Any idea?

Quick HP gains can be done with bolt on items ...
Change out the stock distributor to a Bosch 009 and Pertronix Ignitor II Ignition. (Not to be done with a stock Solex carb as this needs the stock dist. for vacuum to operate correctly) A decent size exhaust system, Keeping the valves adjusted. Lightened flywheel, Dual carbs within reasonable specs as to not drown the engine,( A Weber Progressive 2BBL will also work) Finally but a bit more labor intensive ,is to go with a decent set of mildly ported heads will provide noticable power gain!

Never seen a bone stock 1600 break 50HP on my dyno...and they run hotter than a 150BHP TI. Terriable design from VW.
