Looks to need a complete tear down, i.e... paint, wiring. motor to body panels,( motor work ?) Interior, probably a top and side curtains, brakes tires and "rust" etc. That right there is a minimum $8k investment for the upgrades ( if the buyer does most of the work) Adding that into whatever else may be needed, the selling price, it no longer looks to be "such a deal".
IMHO it would depend on what a buyer wanted to do with the car i.e. minimal fix and drive or a complete resto to make it run well, be safe and appear close to new. If I had an interest in it, $3,500 tops ( need to factor in possible shipping costs too) but that would be me doing everything to save money with the exception of paint.

The D is a different story all together but doesn't state who the Mfgr is. It looks decent and the roll up's are a much sought after option, should bring and easy $17k plus.
someone buy the 912 powered car and swap out the engine for a VW.

How much of the purchase price of the car can be recovered by selling the 912 engine by itself?

I think the seller is nuts to leave that engine in a speedster - reminds me of a guy who sold a $400 Remington 700 rifle with a $1400. Leupold scope on it for $600. Duh!
oh, I saw that way on the bottom of the listing. The windshield cowl seal threw me off. CMC must have experimented with a couple of versions of a roadster though it seems not many were made. some have the fiberglass flaring up to a different seal. On this car it looks like the seal and the trim molding tuck under the windshield posts.
"I believe the ad states it was made in hawaian gardens, ca."

Yes, the OP posted chreme colored car listing does say that. However, the subject listed as being powered by a 912 engine does not so state. This thread has become a generic ebay replica discussion rather than a topical one specific car discussion.

On the silver 912 powered car listing there is a question/response:
Q: Who built the car? Intermecannica, Vintage, CMC, ? R
A: CLASSIC MOTOR CARRIAGE, Miami Fl

It's all good.
