Ed, I am giving in to an itch. I am going to get on Henry's list for something I have in mind. I'm retired... and have found after 3 years, that I really am getting deep into this Speedster replica thing. I love my VS... but, I have a chance to get something that I keep seeing in my dreams. If I do it now, maybe I can have it shook out in time for Knott's and if Dale & I can convince our spouses, maybe the East meet. Life is short... and so I am just using the days and enjoying them. This is a part of that.

I blame it all on Dale.
Okay, I'll blame Dale too!

Seriously, Jim, if you want to do it, and can do it, then just do it.

Besides, following your build 'ala' George's build, will help me get through the long Canadian winter that is approaching. When I look out to my driveshed, and no longer see the 'Rooster' sitting there, I will get to vicariously experience your car coming along.

Just be sure to post pictures and updates each step of the way, so we can all comment and provide our unbiased advice ;-).

Potential Speedster buyer's heads up! My trusty, reliable, and clean 2001 VS will be up for sale soon. It is located in OKC, smack dab in the heartland. There is a young man from Edmond/OKC on this forum that has the first shot at it. If we do not cut a deal I will put it up here, on E-Bay, and locally in November. So, if you, or someone you know is in the market, here may be a chance to get a clean driver with a good history at a great price.

Details.
Black with tan interior. Front Discs with SS Flex Brake lines, 16 Gal. Tank, Camber Compensator, 3:88, 1776, new AS41 case, Mahles, E110 Cam, Scat Crank, CB044 heads,SS Valves, heavy springs from CB, Comp-u-Fire in a 009 and blue coil. 8mm wires, dual ICTs (now, but you can have the new Solex with chokes if you want instead), crankcase venting set-up, Scat Linkage, low end all balanced and there's much more unlisted. Like a CSP 1.5" dual system with heater boxes to match... alone a $600 set up. New Coco Mats, Pioneer Stereo & CD with FS Speakers. All Canvas tops, including full and 1/4 tonneaus. Bumper Gaurds, luggage rack, all correct badging, a VS Bra, a Califorina Car Cover, two sets of seats easily interchanged... original style Speedster seats, and a pair of VS 914 Cut Downs. Much much more. 12 lb. flywheel. Oil Cooler, fan, Stat and overide switch. All maint done at 3000 miles without missing any in 3 years. 200 miles on current valves, timing, plugs, oil, new speedo cable, new plug wires, rotor cap, new tie rods, and many more new items.

Wheels are 5.5s 4 bolt with the true nippled Super Caps made to fit. Tires are Dunlop 185.65 A2 Sports. Nardi Steering Wheel with Porsche logo button and matching Nardi Shift Knob with Porsche Logo. Quik-Shift Kit that REALLY works great and original 356 Boot.

Currently, I am detailing out all (Nose area) bug & road rash with primer filler and correct PPG paint...with a pro shooting the PPG black, It will be a nice job. Everything like new. Engine is tight and has 23,000- miles on it. The car has 31,000 it. Clutch is tight and all bearings are new. Good solid, clean, maintained, and optioned out driver.

One Pic below. I will post others soon. This is a solid VS and will be an affordable alternative to a new one or building/rebuilding another E-bay Replica. Priced well below base for a new VS.. In fact, one could buy a turn-key Down's 2110, have it locally installed and still be well under the Base VS price. A very good deal. Price TBA if it doesn't go locally. Write for info.

Jim

Jim your quote would be fitting on the SOC home page!

The coolest thing I know about this group and these Speedster Replicas, is that we all can get into it at any level we choose, and "brands" or $$ don't divide us in the enjoyment we share and in the admiration we sense in seeing another person's vision and statement in their Speedster. A 15 year old CMC body in a crate that is being built today is just as cool as a turn-key IM, VS, JPS, or whatever. Look at the Oregon group for instance. So, guys, just remember that I am not trying to buy prestige, but just a dream... that's all. We all still drink the same beer and enjoy our Replica's at the same level, right?!?
To all of you, thanks for the encouragement. And, yes, Jodi's buffer job just adds to the history of this great Speedster Replica. Route 66, Knott's, the Ozarks, Texas Hill Country, and so many other trips are recorded in digital and in memories that money just cannot buy. I'll bet most owners have similar memorys of their fun and rides in their own Speedsters. The next owner will have a chance to continue to use this Speedy the way they are meant to be...

As far as my build? I have much in mind and am asking Qs, trying to learn. Using the archives search has also been helpful. I hope to get with Henry again next week and get the first part of the snowball rolling. Oh, and my budget wouldn't buy but maybe 50-65% of Geo's 'ultimate Speedster. But it has been fun so far checking out other builds, asking Qs, writing up several lists of what I want in it, and this morning checking out all the cool Japanese sites to get another take on the vision thing. One thing I know.... it will be a fun winter and there will be a couple of trips north.

Now, if I don't sell it to someone local, that has wanted it since he saw it 3 years ago... you all need to help the VS Jodi Special find a good home. John Leader, know any more surgeons buying black and tan replicas unseen? LOL. Speaking of cool builds... I like John's.

Jim
Thanks for the kind words everyone. Justin and I are in contact. Some of you may remember this young man from the early days of this site. He has wanted one since I can recall reading his first post. We have met a couple of times over the years and his Dad is also a car nut. Nice people. Anyway, Justin will be an owner sometime.. hopefully soon, and hopefullt this one! It would be cool to see her (the VS) go to a good home.... his.
