VW Camper on local CL

I get a chuckle out of some these CL ads!  Rod knock, engine needs rebuild, NO Title - only $7000. Not sure why mechanic says the flat pancake is so hard to work on.

I was selling this '76 camper for a lot of money however a rod knock just started and it's getting worse. The mechanic who passed it up said the motor needs to be rebuilt. Unfortunetly the rebuild is $5k because it is a fuel injected porsche pancake motor (hard to work on yourself). Lost title (not in my name). Leaks oil need gone will sacrifice for $7k. Email a contact number if you can handle a serious german engine project. Thank you.

Having been a part of that fun for several years, the bus appears to be in great condition and still has the original upholstery on the front seats. I would guess the mileage to be more like 93k. The is no 6th digit on the odometer. With the type 4 motor and color it is a 77/78. The deluxe camper package. If all of original parts are there $7k is a bargain. I restored a 77 I bought in 2000 for $4k with a new motor. It took 10 years to get all of the original parts. I sold it for $14k in 2010 in a very soft market. A fully restored "loaf" Westy is worth over $25k today.
