I was wondering if anyone could help me with this...
I purchased a 356 replica that then got flooded by Hurricane Wilma...obviously the fiberglass body is OK but the rest of it is hurting, anyway, my question is can a 68 Ghia work as a donor car as far as the chassis, motor, etc.? Or does it need to be a Bettle?
Thanks for any help on this.

YES it will work - think the actual floor pan is wider on the Ghia but usually the pan pieces need to be replaced anyhow due to rust. You know it has to be shortened 10-11 inches. Unless old pan is older link pin (non-IRS), I think I'd just use the pan that's on it - replacing the floor halves if they are bad. If the engine and trans were underwater I'd use the ghia ones. One advantage of Ghia chassis is that they come with std. front disk brakes (and different mstr cylinder). Additionally your old chassis probably has an adjustable front beam that you'll need to reuse --- and the rear may have been lowered.
Initial titling in Maryland as a street rod was cake.
Just have to locate the VW VIN and prove significant modifications, like, say, a different body, a roller gas pedal or a different system of lights than the VW would have had. If you trailer it to the DMV, they might have a guy who's done street rod tags before. Maryland isn't the Great State of Texas ....
