I realize some of you have a hard time understanding this, but our
cars are basically expensive VW's....This being said, this coming
Weekend on Sunday is the VW Classic in Irvine Ca.
They expect at least 500 cars, and if last years event at Santa Anita
is any indication of how many VW's there are locally, I figure double
that amount could show up....At Santa Anita I was the only speedster,
And I will admit my main reason to go was the ponies, but there was
some fabulous VW's there of all varieties.....

Personally, I'm always looking for a "reason to ride" and will
probably attend for at least part of the day....
"For Sale" signs are permitted, so it could also be a good place to
buy/sell any VW product you may have or want........
www.vwclassic.com is the web site for any of you that may be interested........

I do not get paid anything to advertise this event, and I do not
know of any "hero's" or "Old Racing guru's" who may be attending...
(for those who need some motavation to get their asses off the couch)

Lance,
I have 2 choices, My speedster or my Ghia, But my Ghia is a
Daily driver and not worthy of showing...Very clean and 100%
original/unrestored, which would be appreciated, but not something
I would show...So....it appears the speedster is going. They are parking according to class, (of which I have none)....which means I'm "Special Interest" or "Kit Car", if I have a choice, I'll take Special Interest....
never have considered my car a kit....I have Sunday free and It
would be a nice drive, so my plan is to spend part/most of the day
in the sun relaxin.......look for an Ivory speedster, stop by and say
hello......
Well everyone keeps trying to talk me inot taking all of ine also. The Ghia would have to be trilered . It is a full blown race car. The speedster would be driven and the 57 Oval would be driven, the other problem is getting them all there and keeping them together. I don't think I wan tcars all over the place. What a terrible problem to have.
I have wanted to go to the VW Classic since I restored my '70 Squareback a couple of years ago. Looks like I'm going to finally make it this year, IF I can get her all cleaned up on Saturday like I plan to. It looks fairly clean and may very well be only Squareback there, gaging on how few, if any, ever show up in VW Trends or Hot VWs magazines. As I have posted previously, I use it as a daily driver because it is converted to propane, which costs me nothing, since my alternative-fuel company provides propane free of charge to all employees with converted cars, so heck, I figure I'm saving $50 per week. I'd rather put that money in my Speedster tank!

So, I hope to see some of you guys there. Vince, I'll look for you and your Ivory Speedster....look for me in the Type 3 section (probably in the lower 40 acres) with my little Squareback.

What a show. Who had the light blue Speedster there? Did not see the Ivory Speedster anywhere.
I took my 57 Oval Rag. Sorry Beth, did not see your car. I would like tosee how it is converted to propane.
There were several real Porsche coupes there, one real rust bucket.
I really think it would be cool to have a large gathering there next year. I know there are several of us that attend it and why show the spirit of the car together. At least we could get Rich Kimball to make a special area if there were a few of us to show. Any takers? David / Vince / Beth, any others? I am sorry that I cannot remember the gentlemens name, but he showed next to me at the Knott's show (unfortunately his car was not there but he paid for the space an hung pictures of his car) I ran into him at the Classic show. I really would like to see his car as soon as he get's it. Thanks for the compliments on the bug.
That was Dan's blue Speedster..wasn't it a beauty? The color looks very retro and your car would surely be a lot easier to find at a Speedster event. I guess that one was the "one that got away" since I found out it was for sale only after I had made the handshake deal for the silver one I bought. No regrets though, except that the 1915cc engine would have be a major bonus. I wonder how much that would set me back if I wanted to upgrade/rebuild in the future?

The alt-fuel Squareback drew a fair amount of attention...mostly from those who walked up to it from behind, where I have "clean-air", "no stink clouds" and "got propane?" stickers posted. In retrospect, I should have put a banner on the windshield indicating "propane-powered" because, after a while, if the cars were not absolutly concours, spectators would just pass her by to stop at some other beauty. Oh well...so much for being discovered by "Hot VWs" magazine!

It was fun, my first VW event, so I saw many unusual cars. How about that 1950 4-door black Beetle (the Roemsch? sp?) which I think translated to Taxi Cab?

I did get pictures of the 4 door taxi. I will post them tomorrow.
Beth sometimes oyu have to make the car stand out amonst others, ie props.. Propane cans or something like that maybe a bar B Q plugged into the car.
So are any of you guys up for the VW panic in Upland? Take your speedsters and VW's
Come on let's get together on this.
Hey Lance,
What does your 57 Beetle look like? I attended the event with my 1954 Sunroof parked right next to Bob Sowerby's 53 Sedan. My Beetle was the talk of the vintage crowd being it had the mega rare $3k popout qtr windows.

As for the Rometch taxi, it is now owned by Chris Morley. Julio Munroe of Convertible World (Long Beach, CA) is credited for the restoration work. It was brought in from Belgium about 3 months ago. There are only 6 known to exist and it's the only one here in the US.
Patrick- Email me directly & I'll get you Julio's personal number. Which bow do you need? A trailing bow or the header?

Lance- Of course I plan on attending the VW Panic next month in Upland. I've attended the past two years. Very little show & swap in physical size, but the setting is very nice.

Bill- The tailights were not on the car at the show. Convertible World just finished stiching the interior prior to the show. But if you've seen Chris Morley's parts stash, you know he has them. As for the ribbed semaphores, yes the were in place. Just behind the rear doors.
Dave, Here's the info you want--
