I saw that article yesterday and it definitely caught my attention! I’m not all “into” EV systems but the thought of converting a Beetle (I happen to have a 1979 Super) to an electric drivetrain intrigued me.
I’m sure I’d miss the fickleness of that flat four, but then again I still have my VS!
Would be something to have Tesla type acceleration performance in a Speedster. Sounds like this is not that. But even if it were, it would be tough to lose the sound and smell of the engine. For me, that's a big part of the appeal.
The price? According to my Hemmings motor News email - $109,000!!
From what I can tell, EVs are not a good value. It appears that the only reason they sell in quantity is government subsidies. If the public ever catches on that they are paying for someone else's ride, and the subsidies end, so will EVs.
EV’s ... will not end. Not even close. It’ll only increase. Whether we like or not. I have a Tesla but also my beloved speedster, a 911 too.. so I can’t be called a “greenie”. But that Taycan .. worth a look. IMHO Porsche has to unveil the lower tiered taycan cars fast because at 180k for a “turboS” .. hard to swallow.
Just my 2.5 cents
