Name and price is a big part of it. I think there is an extra main bearing in the P-car engine. Rebuild and parts costs are very much higher for the Porsche engine and the availability and variety of parts for enhancing performance is definitely better for the VW engine. Why do you ask?
Dieter; I second the above posts. The good news is that with the new developments in aftermarket parts for VW's we can get our Speedster replicas to perform better than original 356's for a lot less money.
