Does this fit a speedster? I was under the impression that a 13 gallon was max size...I'm interested if it fits......... Alan
Joe,
If Alan can't use it, let me know. I can use it in my other transportation, a '72 Beetle.

Joe, if the other guys do not want this tank, let me know. I'm replacing a fuel tank in my newly aquired speedster that has been setting for a while and has rust in the inside. You mentioned that you soundproofed the tank, what process and products did you use. If I don't get your tank I will order one from someplace. Anyone know the best place to get a tank and shipped to Michigan?
Thanks, Chuck

Check my article under Knowledge. A 16 Gal will fit, but you will cut the inside liner for the cap.

Chuck - CIP1 has them for $69 (free shipping but a $20 boxing chg) -- they often have 5 or 10% off specials. They ship anywhere. Now do they fit? I got one for my CMC -- it sits much higher to point that it hits the inner hood fiberglass liner. Believe it can be cut out to accommodate this (need 3/4" more space). (See Jim Ward's install article under Knowledge). I may try to recess it a bit to sit lower or at an angle.. I've also noticed that the space saver "temp use" spare will no longer fit (need 2" more space). That's the bad news -- good is that it should help weight distribution and keep the nose down.

I know this is not the forum for this question, but I saw a std. gas tank on the cip1 site but it does not have the same small fillerneck as the current one I have. The tank for the 62-67 tank has the small filler neck. Do I order the 62-67 tank for the speedster? It has a 70 frame. although it sits on the fiberglass. Thanks, Chuck
OK guys .... Joe say's it won't fit and Jim Ward says it will, this is my first "new part" purchasefor my personal speedster build ....anyone actually know if it will fit ?
If so Joe I'll take it.

Chuck: Standard VW tanks need to have the filler cut and shortened. I believe JPS and Vintage sell them already altered.

Alan.....
for a small additional fee Jim Bob can call you on the phone and tell you exactly where to hit it to "adjust" it.
Don't know what I'd do if I didn't have to stop for gas every 150 miles or so........might cramp up or something!

Hey guys:
The tank won't fit my CMC. My old stock tank sat on a frame of 1x2 oak strips around the cutout . . . so when I went to install it I had not enough hood clearance . . . I figured no problem, I'll just remove the oaks strips and save 3/4 inch . . . when I did that the belly of the tank rubbed against the frame hump . . . moving it further down brought it against the suspension, although I didn't try that, but you could see that would happen . . .if there is a way to make it fit, God Bless, because I really didn't want to cut anything on my hood, as it was recently repainted. Murphy's Law would have me screwing up my hood in the process. I will check out Jim Ward's post though. Anyone that can do what he did must know some serious &$#@!

Gordon, looks like a "no". I am "on call" that weekend and can't find anyone at work to switch. I am basically whore-ing myself out to make it happen. I will know for sure I guess Thursday am. I have your contact numbers so I will call you. I am in Ocean County NJ and close to I-287.
