My new Speedster needs a mechanic that’s comfortable working on vintage 72 VWs. I’m in Arlington VA. Does anyone know of a good shop nearby?

Check your area to see if there is an air-cooled car club and reach out to them as well.

Cory Drake (@Cory Drake) is not too far from you in MD and knows the local mechanics.
I used to live in Springfield, VA. I used Muntz VW in Lorton and The Buggy Man (for parts new and used) also in Lorton (this was 8 years ago).

Monk has passed away recently so not sure if shop still open or who is running it now.
I will check with John at the Buggyman and see if he is still working - it seems I have heard it both ways - closed and open. Will post up when I find out.
There used to be a Guy with the last name Dean in the DC area that specialized in aircooled VW and early Honda back in the 80's and 90's. I think the company name had "doctor" in it.
I went to college with his son who drove a really nice Ghia.
Just don't go to a guy named "Tiff" unless you have buckets of money and buckets of time.

So far no answer from John at Buggyman - just goes nowhere when trying to ring - maybe he is closed or shuts off his shop phone when working? Anyway will post up more when I hear something.
