VW pan vs. tubular chassis | 356 Speedster, 550 Spyder, Replica, Automotive Community

Hey Everyone,

We are in the final purchasing phase of our "new" speedster and are trying to figure out how much a tubular chassis is superior to a VW pan. Is it worth the extra money?

We have narrowed it down to Vintage Speedsters, Beck and Carrera.

This is my two cents worth......please consider it just that. One of the benefits of the tubular chassis is the larger foot box or area. Pans fatigue. Limited suspension. Kevin and Mendeola do a killer job rebuilding the pans and putting some crazy great suspension on them. Tons of respect from me there. I love what we build. That is why we build it that way! So my vote goes tubular.

In the end, just buy one. I don't think anyone has ever hated their pan based car. Buy from who you feel comfortable with and provides an emphasis on the specific things that you consider valuable. Each of the providers believes in their niche!! Don't be afraid of building a kit!

Pan base usually by doaner year ... Tube by frame completion date. and thenit gets into emissions and inspections and all the mess
