VW pan with Suby engine? | 356 Speedster, 550 Spyder, Replica, Automotive Community

I was told that Subaru conversion(2.2 liters)on a vw pan speedster is not a good idea(too heavy).It is even hard to register and find a legal EPA exhaust system.I thought that the subaru engine is almost the same as the type 4.So type 4 is not good for pan based speedsters?Now after reading few posts I was able to find few speedsters (vw pan)using that set up.What are your thoughts?My understanding is that is very expensive too.(?)

The bigger problem for suby engines is cooling. Where do you put a radiator on a speedster? It has been done but it is difficult and expensive. The guys in Tenn. build thiers with the suby but they are designed for it.
