Ok, this may be a dumb question but I have to ask, The tranny in my Speedster is "Gold" in color, so.. is there a designation on color for VW trannys?

I imagine that trannies come in all sizes, shapes and colors and ride around in every type of car. I am not aware of a specific color requirement to ride in a VW or a Speedster, perhaps someone else is.
color may designate, as in, Freeway Flyer, Gear ratio's, Build date, or what it was in? It an anodized gold color.
Must have come from Saudi Arabia...
Somebody just had a desire for a gold transmission.
Could also be a particular after-market case.
Every stock VW tranny I've seen or owned has been Henry Ford's favorite color.
They're not being honest with you, they just want your gold transmission ticket.
Which means....
You've got the golden ticket! Run straight home Charlie and don't stop for anything.
You won a trip to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory!
Yeah, it's just the case color.

LOL!!!
Most likely a chem-film or gold iridite/alodine. ( Google "images" for Mil-C-5541 )
Yes, the gold transaxle was the 3.88:1 ring and pinion from 1974 up.
I have the mango coloured one. It's awesome.
Ya know I'm beginning to wonder about Theron. After several years of virtual absence, he's beginning to sound like a more erudite GERD/Vinny. Wut up wi' dat?

the more the merrier!
If the color is not "alodine" or natural aluminum, the specific color is probably preceded by the words "Rust-Oleum"..... I'm just say'n.... 8-)
Just tried a little gold paint on my Rancho...nah, not for me. Besides I paid extra for the White Rhino option.

The stock beetle trans case is magnesium just like the engine.
I painted mine black to contrast the silver on my chassis. But it was originally a rebuilt unit that came in black.

I think gold ones are OEM Porsche.
I'd be willing to bet the builder of this particular transmission wanted to paint the case and found he only had a can of gold colored spray paint. Being a fiscally responsible person, he used what he had.
ok, stop being so "Technical" LOL It's NOT painted. it's anodized. I would guess after all the corny BS here that its from a Porsche 966, inverted, and reversed. to adapt to the full blown nitrous injected, Alcohol burning 900hp 4 cyl VW motor. Kept under a Funk & Wagnel Dictionary in a vacuumed container. LOL
