if you have the body on the car - you won't be able to see in it. It's in between the front suspension tubes (link pin or ball joint tubes).

This is where the shift rod is replaced, but the fiberglass battery well is in the way.

Lots of guys cut it opened on 3 sides, bend it out of the way, do what you need to do, bend it back and and weld it back up.
On a VS there is a pannel righr behind the seats in the middle I took a jig saw and cut part of the rear self out in a half oval to make it acessable then glassed the cut out peace on to the cover. So when its reinstalled. it looks as it did before . That made it very inspectable and gave me a extra place to fish wireing for add ons
