VW TYPE 2 BUS BANJO STEERING WHEEL

Does anyone happen to know if a VW TYPE 2 BUS STEERING WHEEL will fit on a VS speedster without major modification. Thanks.

Depends on what you think major modifications are. You'd have to change the entire steering column to a VW Type 2 version since the steering wheel is NOT splined, it's got a woodruff key instead. Then you'll have to modify the front beam to accept the VW Type 2 steering box because the box & steering column/shaft are 1pc. You'll also have to custom shorten the entire assembly because it's quite a bit longer than the VW Type 1.
Basicaly, it is alot of mediocre work, but nothing major. Why would you want to use a Type 2 steering wheel anyway? It's diameter is quite large and it may not clear your legs while in the driving position.

Wait a second I put a column that I removed from a 70 bus in my car, and it did have the same spline.

(Just call me confused!) What gives here? another thing the steering box was seperate like a beetle, but different.

The only reason I asked about the Type 2 wheel was because I found exactly what I wanted, butit was a Type 2. Thanks very much for the info. I'll continue to look for a Type 1.

Perhaps you can have an adapter machined up if you can't find one ready made.

What year Bus steering wheel are you looking at? I assumed Pre '67 when I stated that the wheel & column were a keyway rather than splined.
