On all VS cars there are "pockets" right where the rear wheels would sling water if you are driving on a wet road. They are in front of the rear wheels. These pockers are really hard to see but you can feel them with your hand. They are about the size of a very large fist. They are the reason all VS cars will gave wet floors---any other pan based car will to. John Steele tought me how to solve the wet floor problem and thT's to just fill those spaces with black silicone sealant that comes in tubes. It took 3 tubs to seal eack side of mine. My floors are perfectly dry even in the heaviest rainstorm.

The truck bed liner will make a proper seal between the pan and the fiberglass. Bed liner is for dry floors andd Dynamat is for a quieter car.

Do I think Kirk will do it for you? For a few bucks I'm sure he will.

To do mine I had to take out all the carpet, do the work then buy and install new carpet. That's why you want to do it now.

Troy--good question. I can say that of all the Speedsters produced, I personally feel that The Vintage is far and away the best value and the service you will get from the nice folks after the sale is as good as anyone else's out there. One reason may be that an owner has the option of doing more things to his car himself after he gets it. Otherwise if you are lucky enough to live on the left coast where tops are never used you won't have do do anything to one of these cars for rain protection.

Vintage has produced more cars than everyone else put together so
many people recognize the value, and felt the VS ppackage suited their neeeds just fine as I did. Other's want something else and are happy to pay for it---like a Porsche 911 engine or roll up windows making this hobby available to almost anyone.

I think Kirk has the build process perfected for a good quality product at reasonable cost. He seems to have found the right vendors and able to accurately figure in the build man hours to arrive at a decent profit. I think, to do a large volumn of custom work on the speedster would slow the overall VS production hence not very cost effective. This is why VS doors are open in this uncertain economy. Who knows some day down the road, I would like to fly to the left coast and meet Kirk, Mary and Cathy and perhaps order a fat body roller :~)

Given how many cars all of the builders are producing, one would think that, after all this time they would figure out what is chronically leaking and FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!

IM has figured it out, so has SAS (whose cars do not leak at all) and Beck has solved some of the problems, but not all.

No, John Steele didn't figure this out all by himself - he just did what someone else did before him and he copied it. And then Jack copied him and so on. Nothing wrong with that, but come-on! If someone took the time to properly install a pan-to-body gasket and glued it in with copious amounts of silicon caulk (which is cheap), there would be no leaks! Especially if you're seeing lots of the same bodies all of the time!

I would agree with Alan - They're at a price point and quality/value level they like and that doesn't include preventing leaks.

Right on Gordon! Loved my VS but not the water. We should not even be talking about leaky floor pans and water coming through rear fenders. Come on you west coast guys, you need to ride Kirk a little more about this issue. Neither one of these things are expensive. There are less costly substitutes to Dynamat. I saw a video of of guy who was using an inexpensive roofing material under the carpet on a Beatle restoration. It's 2011 isn't it?

Thanks Guys! I'm gonna love this car. I have a few plans for upgrades once I get it. It should be great as is, but if i did not mess with it, there is no madness!

First I'm going to get a stereo and alarm on it. Already got the rear speakers, and amp. Once I get the car, i can figure out how to get it all in there.


How should I treat the break in period? People have said to change the oil at 300 miles and then agan at a 1000.
