Anyone know the wall thickness of the ridge that borders a VW pan’s footwell?
Love to know what I’m working with before drilling holes to mount a left-foot rest.

It's 1/8" wall mild steel. Go ahead and drill into it. It's thick enough to thread it for anything up to 1/4" dia. I used 1/4" bolts on my left foot dead pedal and threaded them into that same piece.
Wombat.....you may not like that placement for your footrest. Two reasons. It may be too low and your foot will be supported in the arch or lower. it mat interfere with operation of your clutch pedal. I make and sell one that works pretty good.....Bruce

Hey Bruce, do you have a picture of your footrest that you can post.
Thanks, Dave
The photo may be misleading. I mocked it up so the ball of my left foot rests on the re-angled pedal, which is far enough forward so my foot does not interfere with the clutch--while at the same time can quickly slide up and over when needed.
My knees are at the same angle when the left foot is on its pedal and the right one is on the throttle. Symmetry equals comfort.
The idea was to make it look like just another stock pedal, and be as unobtrusive as possible. Not sure whether to paint the stalk black like the other pedals, or try to come closer to the gray in the carpet.
what size bolts/screws did you use?
I did it a long time ago and don't really remember. Maybe 1/4". It could be less.
Butcherboy.........here is my footage design. It mounts a little higher up on the fender well with two 1/4" bolts which you can get to outside in the fender well to tighten. You can see the approximate location in the photos of my car. When not in use, it folds up out of the way of your foot action on the clutch. Very nice addition when cruising ! made of billet T-6061 polished aluminum and has a ball bearing detent to keep it in the up or down position. Currently there are over a hundred of them out there being used here and in Europe..............Bruce

Thanks Bruce. That looks like a cool deal. PM me with the info and where to order one. I'm finding I need a place to put my foot other than just laying it on the floor.
ButcherBoy..........Yup me too ! My legs are almost straight out and my knee wants to bend backwards.............Bruce
