When I was a kid, like 13 - 15 years old, My brother bought a left-over 1958 Porsche Speedster, sold as a 1959. He bought it used, but he was the second owner, buying it from a local doctor. When he bought it, it was a dark Moss Green, kind of like British Racing Green, only a tad darker.
As he inevitably had to work on it, he discovered that it was originally Robbin's Egg Blue, or commonly called Porsche Meisen Blue (sorry, if I spelled it wrong for all you closet PCA guys). The last year or so that he had it, he had a minor fender-bender (to this day, I think it was his own fault for gawking at a girl, swerving to the right and clipping a telephone pole guy wire, but he would never admit it) and after the body work was done he decided to return it to the original color - quite a shock for those of us who expected it to return in dark green metallic!
He eventually sold it (actually, he traded it for an Austin Mini Cooper) but it was a favorite color of his future wife and widow, a favorite color of my Dad (who got to drive it when Ray was off doing his Air Force thing and Dad got to drive it to "keep it limbered up" as he put it). We were on double sessions in junior high back then, and Dad sometimes drove me to school early for things like band practice and stuff. It was always cool roaring up to the school in that little, bitty car with my Dad, his SEG and cigar.
Anyway, here's a picture of (almost) what it looked like - this one is a roadster, but apart fro the windshield and the seats, it's pretty much the same......Enjoy!
PS: THIS one belongs to friend in the TYP356ne club - he has one of every 356 model - and this one is totally restored original.
