A beck 550 spyder in poor condition is worth about 6k more than the M3. But, poor condition spyders are a rare commodity. In reality your at least 10k short. Unless you can find someone to trade a Perry Spyder. They can go for 12-13k.

Here is one that is a little pricey, but could be available for trade.

Be warned the body in a Perry is much longer than a standard 550, hence the reason you rarely see a picture from the side of the car.

The NADA book on the M3 is $ 18850. the true value of any vehicle is in the eye of the beholder but I don't think that I an 10K away from a trade I see a lot of Spyders for sale for around 20K but very rarely see them sell for that check out Ebay any giver day. This leads me to believe that the buying public dess not think these cars are worth that much after all what are you really getting for your money a fiberglass body tube frame 30 year old motor and suspension technology no AC no heater and in most cases not even a top or side windows. Please don't get me wrong I like the Spyders or I wouldn't be here looking for one . The M3 on the other hand is light years ahead of the Spyders as far as being a particle car that is still fast and fun to drive after all it has all the creature comforts that the Spyder dose not. So I am hopping that there is some one out there that may need a more particle vehicle for everyday use and mite be interested in a BMW
Hi David
I would think your best bet would be to sell your Beemer, take that money and then buy a Spyder. Now (fall), is not a good time of year to sell a roadster and you might can get a good deal on one.
I know Corvette prices and sales take a dip this time of year. In the spring when people get the "fever" its alot easier to get the price you want for a roadster. Just my 2 cents worth.

KBB listed good condition 97 BMW M3 78K private party value for $13.8k.
Vintage Spyders have sold recently between 25k and 35k.
Becks 20k to 30k.

Daniel, you might be thinking of a Z3, this is an M3 coupe.

David, you are going to be better off selling your car and slapping down some money. Owners of a spyder typically have many practical cars. The spyder's are just weekend play toys. They get bought and sold just like any toys. However, if you can get 19k for your car, you may be able to tempt a spyder owner who would like to liquidate and buy another toy.
Keep your eyes on this site, spyderclub and craigslist. Every few weeks there is a "Just saw the perfect harley/cobra/etc, need to sell spyder to make room" type post.

I don't think you are 10 grand off either. There are cars out there that can be had for considerably less than $20k. I just bought one today(2000 Beck, 4,000 miles, excellent condition, 1969cc) for less than $18k. But I still think you will be better off selling your M3 first, then looking for a Spyder with cash in hand. Keep searching. daniel, i hope you heal up really fast. sorry to hear about the shunt. good thing you weren't in the spyder, i always worry about something like that happening. i had mine out yesterday,it's getting a bit chilly in the late afternoon. i wonder how many more days are left before i find out about withdrawl.

I have no idea, as I haven't been able to do it yet. Check out the foto below, that happened on Sunday. A guy pulled out in front of me when I was going about 50mph, didn't even have a chance to hit the brakes. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, thank God for seatbelts and airbags!! No broken bones, but alot of bruises, aches, pains and pain-killers. Hopefully, in a few weeks I'll be back to normal. Even then it should be pretty funny to see me try to get in and out, my 56 yr old back is not very flexible with a bunch of RPG shrapnel still in it and my stainless steel tibia won't help either. But, I'm pretty sure the grimaces will be replaced with grins when I finally get behind the wheel.
Happy Veterans Day (alittle late)to all!!!
