Need a single axle utility trailer for my 72" mower.... but I was thinking about a single axle for the Speedy.... I am not big on tire eating yard chewing dual axles just yet..... I looked at a steel single 14' x 6' today.... 2,900 lb capacity. If my CMC is 1800, the trailer is 900, thats not leaving much on the road for error and wear and tear. Any ideas on light/strong trailers? How do you guys tie down your speedsters also??

Mark Greenberg on Spyderclub has one for sale in B.C., Canada. Single axle with wood floor. I think he was asking around $2,500 for it.
I found the photos of Mark's trailer. If you PM me with your email address, I can forward you the photos he sent me.

Your CMC is 1,450 lb. tops you can buy a 2900 GVW sgl axle with 800 lbs total empty weight and still have about 650 lbs under when loaded ... Alan
Yes 14 is fine even with bumpers
I think Alan may be slightly off with his weights. When Danny brought his scales in '09, the lightest Speedster was 1700. Yours is right in the thick of it at 1800. Only the Spyders were below 1700.
I weighed my CMC wide body not that long ago with tools, spare tire, and 3/4 tank of gas and it was 1780 lbs. I believe Lane is correct, 1450 lbs. would be a very, very light speedster.
I bought a single axle, custom T trailer designed for rear engined cars, from Alan Merklin. It carries and tracks very well and is about as light of a hauler as I could imagine for one of our little cars. It is steel and weighs in at about 800 lbs.
800 lbs? Very, very light. Even the small Featherlite aluminums weigh in at around 1200-1300 lbs. I'd be interested. Does Alan still manufacture these lightweights? Alan?
Barry,
Alan didn't make the trailer, he just made it available to me when I was looking for one. It was made in Kansas, who knows where Alan finds the things he finds?
This type of trailer is not for everyone and you my not like it. I am going to try and attach a couple images. Do an online search for T-trailers in your area.

Thanks, Syl. I'll do a search. Since your car appears to have very little front-end ground clearance, have you had any problems driving the car onto the trailer? I.e., does the ramp allow you to drive the car on without scraping the front of the car?
You are right Barry, my front end is low. I have aluminum ramps that have a curve at the top end and are 7 feet long. I use a pair of 2x6x24 inch boards at the low end to get the front edge up just a bit to clear the sidewalls of the ramps. The car is held on the trailer using sewn over-wheel dolly straps with ratchets from Gino's (not shown in the image).

Syl-checked out your web-site: exceptionally well-done. Superb photography in your portfolio.
Here's my car hauler.
