I was thinking about those too. Aside from aesthetics, is there a preference between slotted as above or wire grill weave?
As with anything else on your Speedy, its a personal preference. Choose one that catches YOUR eye!

IMO you can quickly clean between the slots, but mesh look better. I have slotted from previous owner(s).
Steve,Both type are easily removed for cleaning. One thumb screw on the IM and its off. I think that the mesh style lend themselves more to outlaw style, and the the slotted grilles more of the traditional look.
Just my $0.02

The seller at the Samba address Jane refers to also advertises at the bottom a pair of authentic vintage small Hella driving lights with stone guard covers for a mere $900.00.
Beautiful, but wow!

I have seen the Hellas with stone guards advertised for as much as $1200.00 Definitely not cheap!!
Bob,
funny you noticed that because that's how I came across the headlight grills by emailing him about the small size hella grilled foglights but the problem is I don't know if the foglights will fit underneath a high style overider bar. My bumper is not in CA getting a high style bar fitted so I can't see if the lights will work underneath the placement that I like better than above the bar I guess i'll have to wait for the set up to get back but the $900 price is pretty reasonable I think in camparison to others , there's the same set for $1600 on the samba right now for same size but nicer grills that I don't really need because my speedster has patina anyway from being older with gelcoat fade.

Alan, I was thinking of you last night when a correct size VDM steering and horn ring sold on ebay the only problem was it sold for $1725 which I thought was really high and it wasn't even restored.

In my search for the right driving / fog lights I have seen some very cool looking lights for VW's that have curved brackets (they curve up and inward from the bracket they mount on) that attach to the bumper brackets. I like the look of them in the pictures but I imagine that the curvature and height would look weird on a speedster. Mid America has them as does Fifty Six delux.
Anybody try those with grills on them?
