I've gotten myself into another build project.

We are looking into building a mini-sandrail buggy

Check out www.desertkarts.com

The first generation will consist of parts from a '87 Polaris ATV with a blown motor and a 13 hp horizontal shaft tractor motor.

Does any one have any of the following parts laying around:

Type 1 CV joints and axles - "useable" condition
Coil-over shocks
dune buggy rack and pinion
4 point harness
small od steering wheel
small fuel cell
centrifical clutch or torque converter

Thanks in advance...

Jerome , Shop around for a chassis. Up near Silver Lake , Michigan there are plenty of these running around. It may save you some $$$. For gauges you can use karting gauges. The spindles they are selling area poor design. We used the same design in 1/2 scale stock cars. When you snap a spindle and hit the wall at 70 MPH is not fun. We used an tapered spindle design that is similar to the car vehicles. No sharp geomtry changes that can act as a stress riser/ failure point. Is the cage mild steel or Chrom-moly? The mild steel is soft and with colapse with a roll over. The weld areas tend to crack also. Good lLuck . If you need any welding tips or metallugry help email me.

Joe,

The cage will probably be Chrome Moly we have an inexpensive source and my partner is an experianced welder/fabricator/toolmaker with all the nice tools.

We will be using the gearbox off the ATV (forward/neutral/reverse) sprockets and chain, we are still up in the air about how to connect the gear box with the engine.

Glenn,

What style rack and pinion is it, new light duty 11" sandrail rack and pinions are $90-$100 new from many of the catalog houses.

Thanks all,

Jerome
