A local friend told me the other night that he's looking for a 1998 Porsche 993

Specifically, Silver with a black interior.

Not looking for a Turbo version and would like mileage below 25K-30K.

If any of you guys are contemplating selling your second (or third) car or might know of a match, please dialog me and I'll provide his contact info.  He's in the Northeast but would go anywhere in the US for the right car.

Thanks,  Gordon

No, no NO!

See... it has to be a 16 year old car, in a specific configuration, in a specific color, with a specific interior, and with specific mileage.

... and he doesn't want to spend a lot, either.

I thought I was particular.

I think the 993 has great up market potential.  IMO it is better looking than the 964 that preceded it and the 996 that replaced it. They have a more traditional 911 look with less bumpers front and rear. Looks faster and more graceful.

As the last of the AC 911's these can only go up in value, perhaps someday reaching price levels of 356's

Just one guys opinion.

I agree, I like the 993 too.

So am I. I have a Black 97 and get unsolicited offers for it every couple months.

There are dealers from Germany that are buying them to ship back and have networked the dealers in the southwest for rust free dry cars.

Try Sloan or Holt Motorsports as they are most likely to have one.  The Polar Silver ones are in high demand.

He really should do some research at the Porsche Owners sites and should consider the 95-98 models....

I prefer the 95 for less maint. I would keep it simple and avoid the turbos, all wheel drive, tiptronic...all that stuff is expensive to service or god forbid repair. A oil and filters (2) change is about $500.

Good luck, they appreciate at about 10% a year or more depending on the model and expect to pay more than 75k for a #1 with that low of mileage or more, maybe a lot more.

Of all the things l love about my JPS is that it will never ever see a Porsche Service Manager and my heirs are very happy about that...bart

Interesting comment at the end of the last response.  I have the same feeling.  I had a 1966 Porsche 912 about 5 years ago.  I sold it after getting divorced and needing something that needed less work and less expensive parts.  When my son got his license he asked if we might buy the 912 back to work on togehter.  As tempting as it was I knew that the parts would eventually eat us(me) alive to do the car complete justice. I like the idea of having a simple car that I can do most of the work on and stay away from the catastrophic repairs bills of the newer cars especially.  Before I bought the Speedster I thought of a Boxster but decided otherwise.....

I too had '66 911 back in 1980.  Loved to look at car but parts were always 5x my mental estimate.  I mean just how does an oil "dry" sump rust out?  I sold it when I moved to Northern VA for down payment on a TH.  As to be new owner was looking at it, the engine lid gas strut made hissing noise and lid hit him on the head!  Was guards red with 4.5x15" Fuchs with black interior.

Hey Wolfgang,
I've long given up on cars that cost and need more attention than I get enjoyment and driving time.  I would really like to have one of them though as,  if you looked lately,  the prices have gone through the roof.  A classy car to be sure but the Speedster, to me, has a less utilitarian look to it, a much cooler interior and a body to die for ( don't tell my wife).
Gordon, if he is still looking there is one at North Houston Porsche silver with 13.5 K miles... has a auto but probably investment grade...

It sounds silly to say this...but those are already like hen's teeth and even if you pay top dollar plus... it is worth it...IF that is what you like and you  want to keep it and drive it or put it in your living room to admire.  They are appreciating faster and faster.
