That's a Pre-A dash board, not an A. They're getting hard to find and are pricey when you DO find one. Usually around $400 for a straight one. Of course, rusted/rotted ones are less.

The center radio hole takes the same size/shape aluminum trim as the Barn Door Bus and the split window Beetle. The 356 or 914 gauges (except the tach) will fit the large gauge holes, any 2 1/16 gauges will fit the small hole(s). The small rectangle opening is for the chromed ash tray, but a Deluxe Split Window Bus clock will drop in with just a bit of filling and fussing and looks wonderful in the spot.

Personally, I think that it's the most charming dash ever offered in a Porsche. When all of the gauges and ivory knobs are in place it's just beautiful ! ! ! !

Luck,

TC
I have a spare (1955) dash with the two big and two small gauge holes. The ash tray area has been reworked to accept the deluxe Bus clock since an original ashtray is almost the same price as the dash. Of course this area could be returned to stock extremely easily.

I have a restored 914 140mph speedo and combination gauge for the two large holes, plus matching VDO oil pressure and volt gauges for the two small holes. I also have the center pod with a 911 tach in the stock hole and the aluminum trim surround as well. There's a Split Window Deluxe Bus clock to fit the ashtray hole, but it needs to have a Ghia 12 volt or battery operated works installed (Easy Peasy). It also has the original Pre-A grab handle for it. There are three little warning lights that install in the holes above/between the gauges.

You can have ALL of this for $400.

BT,

Here are some pics of the dash and gauges. The dash is in guide coat, the metal is good over-all, final fill and sand, primer filler, and done. Glove box opens and closes perfectly and ball catch still works fine. I couldn't get the grab handle to stay in place for the pics, seems that it's kinda camera shy.

There was an early long body Spyder replica that was released a while ago that fit on a full size VW pan. I really loved them, some folks didn't. Anyway, I THINK that they came with a fiberglass version of the Pre-A 356 dash in a somewhat simplified design, but I'm probably remembering wrong . . .

Could be, sounds familiar. There was a picture on it here on the forum and a discussion to go along with. It was for sale on Ebay and there were a bunch of shots of it unfinished in dirty white gel coat just placed on stock pan and silly narrow stock rims.

Maybe an earlier incarnation?
