I'm way out of touch with modern paint techniques. If the Krylon was applied to the inside of a clear lens would it have any affect on the effectiveness of the light itself ?

Secondly, if an older type of light could be had, what would be the best bet for modern bulbs to maximize the lighting ability? We live on the edge of town and the final drive home involves rural areas where max visibility would be a benefit.

Thanks.

Sylvio, I have a set of the clear fluted 576s. Legit originals, I think. Paid like $80 for them on ebay a couple years back. They have a bit of patina.

My car only wears one. The other's a spare.

No reason you could not get the same deal if you watch the 'bay.

Now, the smoove yellow "pathfinders" are quite a bit more rare, as you know. but there are repops.

Other options:

David - Have you swapped out your Speedie's old style sealed beam headlights for modern/European style H4 headlamps (with replaceable elements)?  Such as Hella Vision Plus conversion 7" lights. These have superior optics and a whiter light over sealed beams.

You can get more powerful bulbs (elements) but you may have to increase gauge of wiring. For max voltage to lights they should be wired through a relay. You can also get a CITY lights version if you want to add a day time light safety option.

Yes ive been contemplating the carlisle trip hopefully my cars done by then, and my schedule allows it since i own my own bussiness its hard to leave things in charge of others sometimes.
only thing left on the car is  minor cosmetics, clutch, interior and top (who needs a top anyway)LOL.

David , if your looking for brightness and to be able to see at night do what im gonna do,
h4 conversion in the headlights ,using hi density bulbs (HID) 6000k in color wich are white, and ill also be wiring the fog lights to have the same bulbs .since the car is so low it wont blind anyone and ill be able to see very very well like it was daylight. hid kits on ebay starting at 35.00 the cost of sylvanias regular bulbs in a parts store.

by the way all my vehicles have the bulbs ill never go back to halogen unless its an emergency .

Bring it to Carlisle even if not completely done...I too own my own business and hang it up for 4 days to be with good friends at Carlisle, not easy as no one pays a business owner for their well deserved time off..BUT you and your business will survive as mine does. In business for 6 years, work mostly 4 day work weeks and a good number of extra days off too including a vacation here and there.

Joel, I swapped out the sealed beams for H4. It was a bit of fiddling around to do my Spyder. Had to remove the plastic plug, put each individual spade connector(there are three) and bend them 90 degrees. This is needed to get the lights adjusted low enough to be useful and not in the trees. Some guys need to install longer adjuster screws to do this. The halogens don't draw any more current, so wiring shouldn't be a problem. But I still recommend a dedicated power lead from the battery via relays to the headlights. Brighter that way.

The CMC has a large enough headlight bucket for easy install.  I wish I had gotten the ones with the City Light option that could be used as day time running lights (HL95146).  They come with 55/60 watt bulbs - same as the sealed beams.  100/80 watt bulbs are available but they would most likely require a wiring upgrades, an alternator and probably say for "off road use only."
