Thank you ALL for the quick replies and offers.

I decided to pick up one of Will Hesch's luggage racks. It will fit my build perfectly!!!

Just in time for the SLO event. So you're going to bring an extra suitcase and put it on the rack for the ride home? I guess you're thinking you'll be taking home a lot of raffle prizes?

There's a raffle?!?

Yes there is. So bring along something(s) to donate and buy plenty of tickets. We split up the money at the end and that's the grand raffle prize.

Hmmm... I've got a few extra parts laying around from my build I could bring up.

@*LongFella - we solicit gift donations for the raffle. Then we sell raffle tickets for the raffle drawing at the Saturday night SOC dinner. After all the gifts have been raffled off, the cash collected for tickets is raffled off in three drawings.

Everybody get in the spirit of the occasion and ticket purchases are brisk. Last year's cash winners;

1st cash drawing, $100 = Michelle

2nd cash drawing, $200 = Kathy

3rd cash drawing, $350 = Jeff

This whole SLO trip is actually a criminal conspiracy. All the cash you see these people waving around along with the crazy look on their faces... there is quite a back story that is purposefully not being told here in order to lure unsuspecting people to this event. Trust me I could very well lose my life because of what I have partially exposed here.

Well ... I know I am breaking the rules here. But I put a Harley luggage rack on my IM. I liked that it was smaller, the shaped works with the 356,  and it kind of emulated the twin grill.  Only down side is the 4 holes you have to drill. But if you have ever had luggage blow off, the firm rack will well make up for it. (I also have matching motorcycle bags for it.) Mine is not for sale. I am just punting this idea. ~ $70 new via ebay.

I know Dutch. That bothered me too. I tried several differnt ways to attache it, but when all was 'said and done', I wanted it to be secure. The large ones bolted to the aluminum vent bother me too. I am sure they are fine, but I had some gear blow off a motorcycle once. Never want that to happen again... I plan on using it on camping trips along the Blue Ridge Parkway... Anyway 4 little holes can be plugged if they need to one day.

I know it is too late but FYI, IM makes a rack attachment that is located in the vent or grill cavity that is securily bolted to the underside of the lid and it allows you to mount your Leitz or other rack securely and you can have it removable as well.  You then  have quite a nice solid addition to hold your luggage.  Just saying.

BTW I couldn't find the dislike button ... just kidding NMCT

I have an old OEM AMCO luggage rack on mine - got it from TC/Teamevil years ago.  Chrome has patina but no pits.  I'd like to find an old hammertone painted Reuter luggage rack.  They actually would be easy to reproduce - no costly chroming or stainless steel required.  A replica out of aluminium would be nice though. This one is in UK for 1149 Sterling plus 20% VAT.

The new '16+ Mazda Mx-5 (aka Miata) has an aluminium hood and trunk lid so the old Miata classic style chrome rack can't be used with out denting the lid.  Here's the Mazda carbon fibre solution for Europe market - not available in US yet.  It's 750 Euros/665 Sterling plus costly shipping to US. It looks like the reverse side of the trunk bracing!

That is exactly how I attached my Reuter Rack and it holds well.

Brian, the rack is at my powdercoater, it may take a week or more depending on his schedule. You'll be the first to know when it ships, I'll send tracking and photos of the rack.

I was at church last afternoon/night and all morning today leading worship, I haven't been on the website until now, had no idea you were PM'ing me.
