WANTED: Short swing axles

Anybody know the status and/or location of a pair of shortened rear axles? I would like to find some made three inches shorter than stock swing axles, and the best deal I can find so far is about $250.00.
If someone's got a pair lying around collecting dust, I'm in the market. Deadline is going to be the end of this week (the 15th of April) before I have to go and buy some.

What's the actual length needed in inches? Three inches shorter than long Type I axles or short Type I axles or Type III axles or 356 axles or . . .

Measure from the spade to the end of the threads. If you can't make the squeeze with an available "stock" axle, post a "wanted" on "TheSamba" and "Shoptalk Forums" before buying new. Wonderful guys and cool deals as well.

I'll measure what I had first. Ultimately, they'll have to fit the three-inch shorter swing tubes we cut in December. As far as I know, they were stock before we started monkeying with them.
They weren't new by any stretch, but they weren't the IRS tubes I had before, either.
I signed up on The Samba at about the same time. I don't know why I didn't think about that.
