My speedometer just fried itself. Old cable was replaced with new one, so the cable is not the problem. I can have the existing kph speedo repaired, but would rather replace with a VDO that works properly (mph preferred, but will accept kph), rather than going to the expense and trouble of going the repair route.

Also, am looking for a used but reliable beefier aftermarket starter motor than the wimpy original equipment one that now strains to turn the engine. email: barryneils@yahoo.com

If you decide you don't need the broken one and you want to hear offers for it, I am in need of broken kph speedo as I have a mph one here in Spain (kph country) and for me would be only an issue of changing the faces over... by the way I will be travelling through California during august so I could collect from your place if it is all right with you

Barry,

I don't know if the unit Alan is talking about is the same one I'll describe - but I would go with a hi-torque gear drive starter. They are pretty affordable for your engine. I have one on the spyder that is actually a VW unit. It turns the six over FAST and with very low battery draw. Awesome starter. They are also smaller than the standard units (at least for our car and our Ford PU which is now also sporting one).

Any reputable electric shop should have this available or you can probably chase it down on-line. angela
Rich, I am definitely interested. Can you try the email again at barryneils@yahoo.com. If that fails to work (my spam filter does stupid stuff sometimes, and your msg might have been deleted inadvertently), try barryneils@yahoo.com again. If that fails, try haulin_hiney@yahoo.com (my alternate address). Or, call me at 707-833-2585.

Angela: Thanks for the tip. I will give it a try. Just got the car back to Santa Rosa and haven't had time to breathe. Daughter had her second child the day I flew down to Ontario (Friday) to pick up the car at Larry Jowdy's. It has been one exciting/hectic weekend.
Landing at LAX in the 9th and leaving on the 29th. That is August

By the way, can anyone recommend nice hotels around, I have rented a convertible, and our plan is to stay 2-3 days in LA and around, then driving to San Diego, from there to Las Vegas, and then back to California visiting the parks up north, and from there taking highway 1 down to SF and to spend a few days at the beaches. Then back to LA to come back to Spain. I am at about to look for hotels and make reservations. I am not really looking at motels, I'd like to go to nicer hotels. Any idea? I might post this in the Off topic section.

Thanks

Ignacio
