My kit came with a harness from www.kwikwire.com. Very nice
I used a column out of a 66 beetle. I chose this year because I wanted the dimmer switch on the turn signal and I didn't want the ignition on the column.

Assume it accepts a standard VW steering column (if VW front end/steering box). '68 up will give you added safety feature of a slightly compressible column (4") but a more modern look with key on column. Lots of options for wiring - from $30 dune buggy harness, reuse VW beetle harness (too long in front and too short in back and those ancient ceramic open fuses!), painless wiring $300, or VS $150. You'll end up adding wires depending on your gauge selection. Use soldering iron and heat shrink tubing for a safe neat looking job.
